I think the Gay community is working hard to find the "Gene". They feel they will get unalienable Rights, which may lead to the Gays and Liberals to fight for 14th amendment rights to due-process protection of fetuses.
This episode does nicely illustrate my earlier point that, no matter how fine a person or accomplished someone is, politics is a profession. It requires experience and skill. It's not enough to have the right positions on issues and mean well. You have to be able to navigate the process, which, for any conservative but particularly a black one, will involve nonstop gotcha questions. Carson's position is not crazy at all. If sexuality is immutable, how can men who are normally hetro willingly engage in gay sex under conditions like prison? It's not like you can't survive without banging another guy. It begins to look more like a preference than something immutable. It's a monumentally stupid issue to breach however. You would think a person of his intelligence would know not to touch a hot stove, or at least have people who would tell him not to, but there you go. You can justify being against gay marriage without going into why people are gay. And how does that change it anyway?
Hey, the science is settled. The science here is clear: Homosexuality, at least in men, is absolutely not a choice.
Ben Carson Apologizes For Saying Prisons Prove Being Gay Is A Choice Potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson apologized Wednesday for saying that prisons prove that being gay is a choice. Carson made the controversial remarks in an interview with CNN earlier in the day. "Because a lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight -- and when they come out, they're gay," Carson said. "So, did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question." In a statement to CNN, Carson walked back his assertion. "I realized that my choice of language does not reflect fully my heart on gay issues," Carson said. "I do not pretend to know how every individual came to their sexual orientation. I regret that my words to express that concept were hurtful and divisive. For that I apologize unreservedly to all that were offended."
What horseshit. Politicians say this stuff in order to see how it flies, and if it doesn't, they're on the next day claiming that they "misspoke", or they were "misquoted", or they were "misunderstood". Ditto abortion, food stamps, ISIS, healthcare, deportations, you name it. Stupid fuck. Arrrgh!
He wishes he could have just spoken to the rabid ignorant homophobic religious right, rather than the whole world.
