Thanks a lot - I will be doing some research this weekend, trying to 'screen the screens'. I will post some information re: these various screens as soon as possible. I will be trying short trials on several sites so this may take a little while. Anyone else who has any suggestions, please keep 'em coming - they are welcome. Nik

  3. FYI

Without checking every screener given on the extensive list at daytradingstocks.com,

    http://daytradingstocks.com/stockscreeners.html#Tradingsoftware

I can see that there are a few decent free screeners -

    http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/finder/customstocks.asp

    http://search.wallstreetcity.com/wsc2/general_free_search.html?template=freesch.htm

A limitation of the MSN site is that values for different search criteria can only be expressed as 'greater than or equal to' or 'less than or equal to'... you can't, for example, use a particular criterion by specifying that you want only stocks whose values for that criterion lie within a given range, where both values are non-zero. Since I'm such a beginner, I am not sure how much of a limitation this would pose - I just mention it because it was an obvious difference in the design of these sites.

There is another site, but to me it doesn't seem quite as user friendly as the first two.

    http://www.marketguide.com/screen/VariablesBuilder.asp

You will of course find that questions about screeners at the smaller sites will be answered promptly. MSN will be a different story.

I will be trying demos of 'advanced' screeners from Wallstreetcity, Crontech and Multex. These are fee based services, although I believe the monthly charges will be fairly low. I will report the results here.

  4. I should say thanks to all those who submitted suggestions, as these sites are culled from your pick lists. Nik

PS - good list, Privateer :)
