Haven't updated this in a while. But I had some time and am going to do so now. I began my quest to a healthier diet based on high protein, low carb - paying particular attention to when I intake carbs and the insulin spike that is associated with them. Caught a lot of flak from Frederick Foresight and some others because I was "just doing atkins" (not at all true) or was "doomed to higher cholesterol" (lets see). I began this diet in May of 2020. My weight today, 18 months later is 28 pounds lighter. The following is my blood work straight from the Quest site. Total Cholesterol Diet start point is the second data point at 198 or so. Most recent print is 163. I'd call that a resounding success. Triglycerides Yeah, I'm not sure how much better I can get this. 58 is the lowest print I've ever heard someone talking about. But apparently it can go lower: LDL Cholesterol (bad) So this one had the most dramatic improvement. And before you ask me what happened in July, I'm not quite sure. The only thing I am aware of is that I only fasted for 6 hours prior to my test. So I think that messed it up. HDL Cholesterol (Good) Glucose This is an interesting one. I haven't seen any notable improvement, and I'm not quite sure why. But suffice to say, given weight loss and these numbers I don't see how anyone can claim that what I am doing isn't working.
I did no scientific measurement of my body, but I am far more lean in upper body and face. My waist went from a 38 to a 34, and my wife tells me she loves the veins in my arms and shoulders now. I still have a little extra in the belly - this seems the hardest to get rid of, and I'd like to lose another 5 pounds - which gets me to high school football weight.
While I’ve been eating well, although not perfectly, I have not been exercising enough due to lack of discipline and the type of loads I’ve hauling. Have not maintained a strict low simple carb or restricted calorie diet either. My body composition is the same. Time to restart this journal. Now.
It's all about the carbs and sugars, and in particular, the timing of when you consume them. But get the blood work at the onset so you have a reference.
Blood sugar is in the 80s so not really any need for improvement as it is already in an excellent range and can fluctuate due to many factors. But if it is below 90, then the up and downs within that range are good enough to ignore.
IIRC, dest was the only one poo-poing your plan. (Some shit about how your triglycerides or LDL were so much higher than his, so what you were doing was a failure. I was incredulous.) And I recall defending you on this, saying "Whatever you are doing is working, so keep doing it". After all, a downtrend is a downtrend. I would definitely short your body weight on the BWIE. (Body Weight Index Exchange.) So...Keep doing it!
I can't see what dest says, so I'll take your word for it. But I do recall Freddy making derogatory comments on the books, the author and the process. But again, to each their own - as you say.
