mjh, the dow first broke 1000 in the early 70's I believe my dad worked at a brokerage and they had a ticker outside their office I remember it slowly going thru the 600's, 700's... There was a big bash when it closed over 1000 the first time. That's less than 40 years from 1000 to 12000
