Plutocracy, without a doubt. We see it now in your so-called "rentier class". the banking industry rules all - politics, corporations - everything. Everything is beholden to the banks, even the Fed. Anyone who tries to stand up to them is bought off, legitimized, or incarcerated for something. I truly believe that Obama - at one time - thought he could take them on, and then was read the riot act when he tried. He, like everyone else, bowed to their power and corruption. That's the number one reason I voted for him the first time around. I thought he would take them on, but then quickly put them in his cabinet (summers,. then Timmay) and kept Ben on.
So true. Maybe you've forgotten, but I did post the excellent essay from Rolling Stone on Obama's early cabinet appointments, and quoted from it a few times. Still, he has been left enough to be branded "socialist", so he can't be all bad.
I don't recall, I'm sorry. If you would post the link I'd love to read it. As for him being "that bad", as someone who loathes socialism, you don't expect me to agree with that, do you? You know, Ricter, you and I want the same thing for the poor/working class of the world. We may believe that they can get to where we want them to be through different paths, but we want the same ultimate goal for them. That should stand for something, at least.

Thanks, I read the article. But you posted that you believe this was "laissez faire capitalism". Do you still believe that? It sounds as though you may have changed your mind after digesting more evidence since that time.
great points tsing. I did not vote for him but when he got elected I was hoping he might actually accomplish some reasonable (but expensive things) but instead he was corrupted by the cronies too.
Agreed. We were just talking about this the other day, and I'm glad you posted some criticism of obama ricter, it sets you apart from the other lefties on the board, and more importantly, (to me anyway) i agree with it.
It should be a small comfort to you, since my dissatisfaction with Obama, which I share with a lot of other dems, is that he's not socialist enough. : )
ha, it is, but it's better than nothing. Think about this, the rule of law which is supposed to prevent these types of unwanted actions by our govt, also is supposed to prevent the government from doing what it is that you want them to do. Which is why I said yesterday, that what you want is incompatible with the Supreme law of our nation. The point I am trying to make is that there is no assurance that if the law is ignored for causes you agree with, that it won't also be ignored for causes you DON'T agree with. Eventually we will be left at the mercy of our govt.. not a position that has worked out well in human history.
Fair enough. But, government needs to be powerful enough to counter any inimical force that may be organized against it. For example, as the power of organized crime grows, so too must government power grow (assuming you want to counter organized crime, that is).
