So I've been proceeding on with the gameplan and I've got about 70 more days to go to try to reach my goal. I will have to make every day count to succeed by the third week of July, that's for sure. In terms of my diet, there has been a pretty big change since my last update. I was at my friend's house a while back, and he told me I should try cooking with a wok, especially since I've been dieting recently. So I bought one from Amazon over a month ago and watched some YouTube videos on making stir fry dishes. Man, as soon as I made my first one, I was totally hooked. I've made at least one stir fry per day ever since I got the damn thing. The best part about cooking these is that it's fast and you can cook enough to last several meals. It does take some time to chop the vegetables and meat, but I'm getting a lot quicker than I was a month ago just from the daily practice. I use avocado oil for most of my wok cooking because it's got a high smoke point and it's considered to be a healthy fat for sure. Cardio wise, I've been doing 15 minutes of HIIT training on the Cybex arc trainer on an empty stomach upon waking. The 15 minutes is broken up into five 3-minutes sections. The first 2 1/2 minutes is just steady state work at a relaxed pace, and the last 30 seconds is wide open fast-as-I-can-go work. 30 seconds doesn't sound like a lot but when you are going as fast as you can, you're gasping for air by the end of it. My weight training routine is the same as before so nothing new to report there. If anybody has any questions, let me know. Oh, and here's the wok I'm using:
I hope you got a real wok, not one of those flat bottom things. Best ones come with a ring to mount over a gas stove. Use peanut oil, real high smoke point. The idea is to sautee on real high heat.
I have two of them. One has a flat bottom and the other one was given to me by a friend who purchased it from a restaurant supply store, but that one has a round bottom and I don't have a ring for it so it's a little wobbly on my gas stove. I use peanut oil as well. It's actually my favorite oil of them all flavor-wise.
Just guessing, but it looks like you already reached about a 10% bf level, if not better. Regarding the HIIT, is this an activity level you're prepared to continue indefinitely?
Yeah, I think so. I was just telling my wife this morning that I enjoy the 15 minutes of HIIT waaaayyyy better than 30 minutes of steady state. And from what I've been reading, once you get to a level you're satisfied with, you really only need to do HIIT two or three times per week at the most to maintain.
