Baron's Journey to Single-Digit Bodyfat

  1. No, you have it backwards friend. Obesity in very rare cases is tied to disregulation of hormones. In nearly all cases, it's tied to diet and lifestyle. When I walk into a bakery, I look around, and estimate that 95% of the patrons have no business eating that stuff, until they reach a safe body fat level.

  3. It is not genetic to be obese. Genetics can play a role in metabolism and whether some people are more prone to be obese than others but that "prone" is often pushed by actual lifestyle choices of the person.

Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH), the genetic factors linked to obesity comprise only a small part of the overall risk. However, the CDC notes that the variation in how people’s weight responds to the same environment suggests that genes do play a role in the development of obesity. Sometimes even people who carry genes associated with obesity don't become overweight, and vice versa. That's because, along with possible genetic factors, weight is also influenced by lifestyle factors. Even with a genetic predisposition, those who are overweight or obese may be able to change their weight slowly, through altering lifestyle habits and with support from family and friends. If your weight remains unchanged, healthy lifestyle habits will still make you healthier, regardless of what the scale weighs in at.

  4. No, not really this thread has morphed from bodybuilding for its own sake into longevity. The two are not necessarily equivalent goals, although they do share some features in common.

So I read up on measuring body fat. About 10 different methods, each has its problems. I really liked using calipers not because I am a cheap bastard (alright, I am a cheap bastard) but because once the caliper is showing less and less, unless your skin got more thin, that is fat disappearing right in front of your eyes. On Amazon you can get these for $10-20...

Other methods using weight measurements are weighting waterloss, muscleloss or your spirit being lost, etc. But the caliper doesn't lie and if it measures less, there is a reason to celebrate.

It is not as easy to use as just jumping on a scale, but here is a guide:

Sure not necessarily equivalent goals, while I lean toward the "never too big" camp as a matter of taste, many even in this camp believe it is unhealthy to carry a very massive body, it's probably better to carry muscles than fat but I suspect 180lbs for 5ft11 is healthier than a similarly lean 250lbs for the same frame. Fwiw i'm going around 230/235lbs at the moment, with more fat than Baron, cutting to 15% would probably be an healthy choice if not through use of extra drugs, but I would be sad to lose muscle and even more strength, the latter being now very hard to improve.
Besides without going to the heavy bodybuilding drug cycles, it is commonly read among users that lighter but long term drug use like HGh and TRT, especially at higher dosage, should bring better quality of life into one's old years yet possibly shave off a few years in life expectancy.

  9. Not that I know much (or anything, really) about this stuff but, since they are pharmaceuticals, I would imagine they should be avenues of last resort and ought not to be pursued lightly.

Matter of choice, I doubt many use those as a last resort but the choice shouldn't be done lightly indeed. The good thing about HGH is it can be given up easily, whereas discontinuing TRT is much more complicated. Literature is abundant in favor of TRT, but noticed several studies going the opposite way. Increase blood pressure seems to affect most TRT patients, actually all (most ?) injections of testosterone and derivatives seem to do so.
