Good decision, Baron. You should also ban FPC/LongShot/Gordon Gekko/ROCK SOLID/skrilla_manilla/Fruity Pebble and Scientist, due to similar reasons. They post much much crap: hershey made 1500 posts in 6 months (many looong ones) FPC total ~6000 in 20 months scientist ~600 in 3 months (many looong ones) and nothing of value about trading.
LET'S NOT USE OUR IGNORE LIST. LET'S CLICK ON THREADS WE'RE NOT INTERESTED IN AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM. LET'S BAN EVERYONE WE DON'T LIKE. no matter how much i dislike anyone or their posts, i wouldn't suggest anyone have their posts edited/deleted or be banned, unless they are spammers. it's a shame more people aren't like me. CENSORSHIP SUCKS.
You're trying to make this into an issue with me, but it's not. I don't ban users, they ban themselves because they are disruptive, annoying, abusive, or otherwise cause an abnormal number of complaints to come in from other users. Jack Hershey, bubba7 is not the first to be banned and he won't be the last. Optional777 and OverTheLine got banned last week also because of member complaints. I have several others on my list that are getting axed as we speak. The bottom line is that certain users require a high amount of moderation just to keep their posts within the guidelines. When the work that is required to edit their posts exceeds the value that they bring to the table, then they get the boot., plain and simple. When I start getting complaints about the same user over and over, and then the moderators PM me complaining that they are tired of trying to keep that same user under control, then it's time for that person to go. Again, I don't ban users for no reason, but I DO respond to complaints from other users. If you have a problem with a certain user being banned, don't point the finger at me because I'm not the one who created the problem to begin with.
Trolls live under bridges and come out at night to frighten and attack people, and possibly to eat them. I believe they originate in Norse folklore (maybe Gerrie can enlighten us here), and am not certain how this term came to be adopted on the Internet. On message boards and news groups a troll is an inadequate person who deliberately posts a provocative message, waits for someone else to respond, and then launches personal attacks with abandon. For some strange reason this gives them pleasure when what they really need is psychiatric assistance. Again, trolls can be eliminated by moderating the message board, but a possibly better method is for us all to follow the golden rule of "never feed the trolls". I know it is hard to bite your tongue sometimes, but if we all do this we can focus this message board on what it does best - providing a forum for an exchange of news, information and support... from Barney Tyrwhitt-Drake This was Jack's method of posting on his original stochastics thread. Those who disagreed were told to put him on ignore or if they chose to disagree on the board were categorized as various kinds of unbelievers or fools. After the impetus of his stochastics thread died down he decided to reorganize the whole thread and repost it with color in a new thread. I'll be honest, what angered me was he launched upon a campaign to 'evangelize' the Mental Ceilings and Self-Fulfilling Prophecies Thread. If you look at Jack Hershey's history on Google or MSN you will see the repeated pattern of his arrival with claims of market knowledge, an 'enabler' shows up...someone willing to help get things organized and then, just what happened here, a long series of posts in which there is no clear resolution of the initial claim. On Google, two guys from Harvard couldn't adequately pin him down and get him to define his terms. Does anyone here think this task could be accomplished by ET'ers? I am not questioning the educational level or abilities of anyone here. However; I do believe Jack Hershey has had more experience at dealing with people questioning his methods than most people here have in questioning unclear methods. It also angers me that he can suck so much energy out of so many people for no good purpose. As an example, look at just some of the trading and system specification threads started by Quah, Dbphoenix, Simtrader, or RS7; these threads are generally wrapped up in under 125 or so pages. Jack Hershey is responsible for almost 300 pages of posts on the stochastic indicator alone, something that can be described using a few formulas in less than a page. I, for one, am glad he's gone. It hurts psychologically to think for yourself, if you are not accustomed to it. I see Jack as a person who tried to create the belief that he was indispensable to successful trading. When you are sitting there waiting to take that trade it is you who are responsible for your entries and exits. Your ability must be founded on your own knowledge, not on what someone else tells you to do.
Baron, you truly are an idiot. Read above what you wrote. You state specifically that you ban those you receive complaints about. Think about that for a moment. It makes NO sense. You're assuming that if you receive complaints, the complainers must be right. YOu've turned YOUR board, which you supposedly control, into some kind of quasi-democracy, controlled by "complainers". YOu've relinquished your total control and given it over to anyone and everyone who is short on brain cells. Now I understand why, LOL.
that was a fine argument but it based on premiss that Jack bring no value whatsoever, of that I disagree.
Let me be brief. This is like a basketball game where one player elbows another, and the ref calls the foul on the one who reacts to the elbow. It's justice of a sort, just not enlightened justice. I'd be willing to bet that the ones who have been complaining about Jack are the ones who create 1/2 the length in his threads by criticizing the form of his posts, rather than the substance. Jack defends himself and attacks back, and then they complain to the moderator to delete his posts, creating a need to get rid of the troublemaker. It's all backwards. The ones who are doing this incessant complaining are the mosquitoes of ET, buzzing in everyone's ear but not providing any value. If there were no detractors in teaching threads, it would be a lot easier to focus on the meat rather than the condiments. We are all adult enough to figure out what is of value and what is not for ourselves. Squash the mosquitoes, not the people who are attempting to provide value. If you want to know who that consists of, just look at my ignore list. On the annoyance/disruptiveness continuum, Jack is nowhere near where dozens of ETers are right now. Problem is they are the ones doing the complaining, so we get "justice" administered by the troublemakers.
