Bank holding company definition

    Could someone please tell me exactly what a bank holding company is or where to find the information. I need to know for how it relates to american express so the historical definition I can find doesnt seem relevant. Was the definition changed to allow certain firms to qualify in 2008? Thanks for any help.
     
  2. Ask Goldman and JP Morgan. They have their very own interpretation of what a "bank holding" company is...

    And it's only used when you need a quick infusion of cash for your sheer survival. Once you get it you can quickly convert to a Financial Holding Company to avoid all those nasty rules that prevent you from using massive amounts of leverage. If things go wrong the option to convert back to a BHC is always on the table.
