wasn't trying to give a ringing endorsement but there are qualities out here which you won't find elsewhere in Asia. Outside of the personal issues, there is a rule of law that works. There are parts of Malaysia that are beautiful but I wouldn't live or spend a buck there for personal and political issues. (don't forget that they did freeze foreign capital during the asian crisis and trump up false charges to imprison a popular opposition leader).

Tax issues/haven: HK's tax rate is 15% (soon to be 16%) but there is no capital gain tax. They also do not tax you for income earned offshore.

  3. LongShot, what's your life philosophy? How do you think people should live to make it the best it can be?

Gibralter has a low flat tax, like 20,000 pounds, but is meant to be dull. not sure how long it stays british either, the british government are trying their hardest to give it back to Spain. A trader I know who lives in London went and took a look and wasn't impressed. He didn't like monte carlo either. I went to Puerto Banus outside Marbella, Spain last yeat. That was very nice. Some ex-liffe traders have set up a dealing room there. Not sure what the taxes are like in Spain. Some very nice real estate to buy/rent as well.

metoo - you are moving once again? WHY?

BTW, I was listening to one of those hearings and the question of the $80k exemption came up. The Senator (I forget from where) REALLY wants to get rid of i t.

If they repeal that, does the monetary reason for beeing outside the US become less so?

Why the hell should people living outside the US have to pay US taxes at all? It's so ridiculous that they would try to get rid of the 80k exemption.
