As usual, once you read the article (NYT) there is some good and some bad.

Dr. McLeroy, a dentist by training, pushed through a change to the teaching of the civil rights movement to ensure that students study the violent philosophy of the Black Panthers in addition to the nonviolent approach of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He also made sure that textbooks would mention the votes in Congress on civil rights legislation, which Republicans supported.

Mr. Bradley won approval for an amendment saying students should study “the unintended consequences” of the Great Society legislation, affirmative action and Title IX legislation. He also won approval for an amendment stressing that Germans and Italians as well as Japanese were interned in the United States during World War II, to counter the idea that the internment of Japanese was motivated by racism.

Cynthia Dunbar, a lawyer from Richmond who is a strict constitutionalist and thinks the nation was founded on Christian beliefs, managed to cut Thomas Jefferson from a list of figures whose writings inspired revolutions in the late 18th century and 19th century, replacing him with St. Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin and William Blackstone. (Jefferson is not well liked among conservatives on the board because he coined the term “separation between church and state.”)

Some of the changes seem reasonable, after all there was a large group that espoused violence in the civil rights era.
And God knows the Great Society was an utter disaster...probably did more to further ignorance and poverty among blacks than any other govt program. But that last one about religion just blows my mind. Whatever is written in the Constitution (and I know it doesn't say seperation of church and state), the founders and early presidents knew damn well that the govt should not do anything to favor religion. But at least now I know why they wanted Jefferson taken out.

  3. I never said anything about your views. I can state my opinion without attacking those who disagree with me.

I agree, that's wrong. From my perspective, which I know is not yours, there is nevertheless no good reason for the left to dis people's religious beliefs. They may be the "opiate of the masses", but that doesn't mean we can't do opiates AND go after the sources of our grief on Earth. There can be, and of course there has been, God fearing communists.

  5. Yikes.

Maybe you need a better electrician. Get some brighter bulbs, if you know what I mean.

  6. LOL you are right, thanks for the laugh. A brighter bulb would be nice. Thing is about these Christian women with their high moral values they will fuck your brains out in every way imaginable BEFORE you are married then you get into the deal and all the sudden sex is sacred. In my younger and single days I went through a spell of dating married women, they would tell me they hadn't had sex with their own husband and then perform like a circus porn star for me, crazy bible thumpers out here. It'd cost me about 30 to 40 grand a year for a few years to get rid of this here bulb and I'm working on it.

"Social science" is like "military intelligence" -- a contradiction in terms. Social "scientists" start with a predetermined political agenda and then pretend that science supports it.

Of course if I had any children I wouldn't entrust them to fringe crazies. That's why I'd home school them. The public schools are dominated by fringe crazies, and not just in Texas.

You have a long ways to go to understanding social science. I offer the following link. Follow it and, hopefully, you'll find it as fascinating as I do. There is objectivity enough to be found to satisfy most, and even one's objectivity itself can be critiqued. Have fun!

  10. Regardless of what is in the text, the one thing that is not taught in school: How to think for themselves. This I think is the most important job as a parent regarding education. I keep up with my kids lesson plans and then: it's time for a chat, the world according to Nutmeg. Not whether I'm right or wrong, point is give them something to think about.
