  1. I'm glad that I bought a backup 56k modem. Comcast cable modem service has been down for the last three hours!

  3. I use 2 computers while trading. Computer 1 has cable and Computer 2 has DSL. I have the DSL platform loaded and when the cable goes down I am up and running on then DSL in a matter of seconds. I learned this the hard way- you must have a back-up when trading, or when it does go down you will pay!

One other option not mentioned here very often - mobile phone as a backup. This way you get mobility as well in case you need it.

    1) can use build-in 56K modem (most of newer phones) with your existing dial up provider [the downside you use you plan minutes]
    2) can use GPRS interned service pplan provided by cell phone company (T-Mobile charges 20$mo for unlimited access, they also have plan based on usage)
