    NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Bank of America (BAC 18.10, -0.49, -2.64%) said on Friday that its net loss applicable to common shareholders was $2.24 billion, or 26 cents a share in the third quarter, compared to a profit of $704 million, or 15 cents a share a year ago. Total revenue net of interest expense was $26.04 billion versus $19.62 billion last year. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had expected the company to post a loss of 21 cents a share.
