even "reputable" websites have virusses - nothing is safe these days. have been running 9 years without AV and have rigid backup / restore regime.
first thing after a clean install make a backup using Acronis True Image & make an Acronis Boot disk. Then back up the image to a DVD. If machine has any issues then boot from boot disk and restore from DVD You can go one step further and every month when Micro$hit has its updates then do a restore, apply the updates and make a new image. The question is then what to do with your data. I have all the data in "My Documents" and copy that elsewhere before doing the restore. hope this helps Maria
Thanks. So you are really a girl who trades ? Do you know the song "Maria" by Blondie ? I have been listening to it the whole weekend.
You can try Acer's Recovery: ALT+F10 tap both while booting computer press enter at the "edit boot options" screen select "restore to factory defaults"
I have doubts about this being a virus problem. I researched this AWToolkit window, there is very little on it. There is a Trojan that was sent by email and PM on a forum it seems , awtoolkit.exe . But I don't see how I could have been infected. It's strange, whenever I THINK I may be getting some computer problems I get a big problem within days. I also got a Canon Pixma printer shortly after that laptop . It doesn't work anymore. Needs a new cartridge after 300 pages! I call it the $700 printer because when I was away to pick it up at the store a small position I had in MTL got obliterated.
