An Italian town declared its independence. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-14774526 I have been thinking about declaring my own and calling it Morgandria.
Its just a matter of time before the italian govt sends in the carabinieri to remove him and their "town money". Letting towns setup their own currency sets a dangerous precedent and could start a domino effect of town rebellions across the country that could cause serious destabilization on a national level. I understand they're pissed off at the austerity measures but creating your own currency and trying to separate from the rest of the country only worsens that situation at the end of the day.
