Actually, the fact that so many of these Twitter accounts are fake should come as good news. Lets us know there aren't as many completely insane people out there that the few truly insane people would have us believe. A media that was doing it's job would be pointing this out instead of facilitating it and using these bullshit accounts as a "source".
Seeing that the same auditing firm found that 70% of Trump’s followers were fake. What does this say comparatively? What does this tell us about the number of truly insane people out there?
Your TDS has you missing what's important. The audit shows, confirms what any thinking person already knew, is that most of Twitter posting is complete bullshit. That in and of itself isn't all that much of a problem. The real issue is that what passes for actual news organizations using Twitter as a source to verify and/or support their own bullshit narratives. Look, it's trending on Twitter, as if that is supposed to mean something. It doesn't! These activists posing as journalists put out their own bullshit story on Twitter knowing it will get picked up by those operating the fake accounts. A huge problem in this country is 24/7 news. There is no 24/7 news that can operate without filling the majority of their air time with nonsense. Actual news can be covered in about 30 minutes a day. The rest is politically bias commentary.
Actually all the "audits" from this firm have shown is that their definition of "inactive" is complete bullshiat. The majority of people on Twitter post less than once per week on average. Most lurk and just read information from those they follow. The huge majority of Twitter accounts in these reports on the followers of Trump and Biden are tagged as "inactive" rather than being "bots". A bot is much easier to identify than an "inactive" account. And Twitter terminates a large number of bots on a daily basis -- most of these bots are created just to retweet political propaganda points from other accounts and use fake personas (many times using the identity of other real people).
Some context... Twitter CEO says over 500,000 spam accounts are suspended daily https://nairametrics.com/2022/05/17...ver-500000-spam-accounts-are-suspended-daily/ The CEO of Twitter, Parag Agrawal, has said that the platform suspends over half a million accounts suspected to be spam every day. In addition to this, he said millions of accounts that are unable to pass human verification are locked each week. Explaining the efforts of the company at reducing spam accounts, Agrawal said the company also faces the challenge of many accounts that look fake because they have no pictures, but are later verified to have real humans behind them. The Twitter CEO also admitted that fighting spam is incredibly dynamic, adding, “the adversaries, their goals, and tactics evolve constantly – often in response to our work! You can’t build a set of rules to detect spam today, and hope they will still work tomorrow.” Amidst the deal to sell the company to Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, Twitter had admitted that 5 per cent of accounts on the platform are spam. Musk last week announced that the deal has been put on hold temporarily until the 5% claim is investigated. What the Twitter CEO is saying Narrating how the company has been tackling the challenge of spam via a Twitter thread, Agrawal said: “First, let me state the obvious, spam harms the experience for real people on Twitter and therefore can harm our business. As such, we are strongly incentivised to detect and remove as much spam as we possibly can, every single day. Anyone who suggests otherwise is just wrong. “Next, spam isn’t just ‘binary’ (human/not human). The most advanced spam campaigns use combinations of coordinated humans + automation. They also compromise real accounts, and then use them to advance their campaign. So – they are sophisticated and hard to catch.” “We suspend over half a million spam accounts every day, usually before any of you even see them on Twitter. We also lock millions of accounts each week that we suspect may be spam – if they can’t pass human verification challenges (captchas, phone verification, etc). “The hard challenge is that many accounts which look fake superficially – are actually real people. And some of the spam accounts which are actually the most dangerous – and cause the most harm to our users – can look totally legitimate on the surface,” he added. He said the Twitter team updates its systems and rules constantly to remove as much spam as possible, without inadvertently suspending real people or adding unnecessary friction for real people when they use Twitter “Now, we know we aren’t perfect at catching spam. And so this is why, after all the spam removal I talked about above, we know some still slips through. We measure this internally. And every quarter, we have estimated that 5% of reported mDAU for the quarter are spam accounts. “Our estimate is based on multiple human reviews (in replicate) of thousands of accounts, that are sampled at random, consistently over time, from accounts we count as mDAUs. We do this every quarter, and we have been doing this for many years,” he explained. In case you missed it The social media company had in its Q1 2022 financial report admitted to overstating the figure of the platform’s users by 1.9 million in the last three years. The revelation came days after the board of the company accepted a $44 billion offer by Elon Musk to take over Twitter. Twitter said an “error” introduced in Q1 2019, resulted in the overstatement of its monetizable daily active usage or users (mDAU). According to the company, this went on undiscovered for three years.
remember some years ago that online hookup website was dinged hard because it had thousands of robot postings from hot women in order to get guys to sign up and when they signed up they were talking either to bots or other guys haha... twitter is the same bullshit when # of followers matters to shallow fucks or to twitter to generate ad revenue. twitter is a perfect example of how dumb people can be and the need for validation from strangers. "I have 570,00 followers!" about as useful and relevant as dried semen.
