There is the difference between being merely mocked by the judge and openly paddled in public like this insurrectionist. US Capitol rioter who barged into Pelosi’s offices sentenced to three years in prison https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/23/politics/riley-williams-sentenced-capitol-riot/index.html A 24-year-old Pennsylvania woman who barged into then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office during the January 6, 2021, US Capitol riot was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison after a federal judge ridiculed the idea she was “a little girl.” Riley Williams was convicted in November of several counts including resisting or impeding an officer, civil disorder, and disorderly conduct in the Capitol building and grounds. “I’m sorry, Riley June Williams was old enough and tall enough on January 6,” District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said Thursday. “And to the extent that she comes off as fragile or weak, that all goes away when she opens her mouth.” Williams, who was a follower of the White nationalist alt-right figure Nick Fuentes at the time of the riot, directed members of the mob to push against the police during the attack, Jackson said. Specifically, Williams looked for large men and individuals who wore military gear to go to the front of the line, according to court documents. Jackson ridiculed William’s defense lawyers for suggesting during the trial that Williams was too young and small to be fully responsible for her actions that day, and that Williams was merely following orders from men like Fuentes and former President Donald Trump. “I’m being told she’s a little girl,” Jackson said of Williams, calling the claim “so blown out of proportion when we’re talking about a high school graduate.” Jackson noted that Williams was “old enough to be one of the police officers she resisted,” and said that Williams, Amanda Gorman (the poet who performed at Biden’s inauguration) and Fuentes were all born the same year. Jackson also lambasted any suggestion from defense lawyers that Williams didn’t know that she was in the Capitol or didn’t know that Congress was scheduled to certify the electoral college on January 6. “She was there to stop the election, not because her dizzy little head was confused about which building in Washington was which or why she was there,” Jackson said. Williams was “hand picking the people who had the proper gear” and “the size” to act as the front-line battling police, Jackson said, adding that Riley was “taking control” and “not just a little waif blowing in the wind.” Before being sentenced, Williams apologized to the judge and those at the Capitol during the riot for her actions. “I was disrespectful, hateful … toward innocent people who didn’t deserve it,” Williams said, adding that she was a “stupid girl” at the time and is now a “responsible woman” accepting her guilt. A mistrial was declared on two felony counts in November, including the government’s charge that Riley aided and abetted in the theft of the laptop from Pelosi’s office, after the jury failed to reach a verdict. Williams’ online messages and postings after the riot – where she bragged about her strategy that day and falsely claimed she stole Pelosi’s hard drive – were used against her in trial. On Thursday, Williams said she had been addicted to the internet but has since “found peace in a quiet life.” Her family, including her father who drove her to Washington, DC, that day, were present in the courtroom during the sentencing.

There should be more of these lengthy sentences for these insurrectionists. Texas militia member sentenced to almost 5 years in prison in Jan. 6 case https://thehill.com/homenews/state-...ed-to-almost-5-years-in-prison-in-jan-6-case/ A Texas man who was part of a self-proclaimed militia was sentenced on Friday to serve a nearly five-year term in prison for his role in the Jan 6, 2021 attack at the Capitol. Donald Hazard of Hurst, Texas was sentenced to prison for assaulting Capitol Police officers during the riot, according to the Justice Department. Hazard, who labeled himself the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Patriot Boys of North Texas, gathered protective gear and supplies in preparation to attend the “Stop the Steal” rally on Jan. 6. Hazard brought a military-style helmet, knuckle gloves, goggles, body armor, and pepper spray, prosecutors said. At approximately 2:00 p.m. Hazard, who positioned himself under scaffolding that had been erected over the stairs on the northwest side of the building, encountered Capitol Police officers as he and other rioters tried to climb the steps. As one of the officers engaged with Hazard to force him back from the area, Hazard grabbed the officer and continued to fight with the officer as the two fell down the stairs, DOJ said. The encounter resulted in the officer, who was not identified by DOJ, being knocked unconscious, also sustaining injuries to his head, foot, and arm, some of which required surgery. At approximately 2:56 p.m., Hazard, who entered the building through the Parliamentarian door, began posting selfie-style videos inside and outside the building, making statements such as “We’re here at the nation’s capitol and we’re storming it. We’re taking the Capitol. . . This is America baby,” DOJ said. Authorities added that a newspaper photographer recorded a video of Hazard marching to the Capitol, where Hazard stated “Make sure you get my face and everything on your news channel. I want the enemy to know exactly who is coming after them.” Hazard’s sentencing comes as authorities have arrested more than 1,000 individuals for their involvement in the Capitol riot, which resulted in the deaths of five people. More than 320 people were charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement on that day as well. Hazard, 44, was arrested by authorities in December 2021, pleading guilty to assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers charge in February. Following the end of his prison sentence, Hazard will pay restitution of $2,000 and be placed on supervised release for three years, according to the Justice Department.

'National embarrassment': Judge heaps shame on MAGA rioter who echoed sovereign citizen rhetoric https://www.rawstory.com/capitol-rioter-sentence-2660722386/ A judge on Tuesday heaped scorn upon Pauline Bauer, a Capitol rioter who became known for deploying sovereign citizen-style rhetoric in her legal defense filings. CBS News' Scott MacFarlane reports that United States District Court Judge Trevor McFadden gave Bauer a verbal lashing from the bench in which he shamed her for illegally breaking into the United States Capitol building on January 6th, 2021 and calling for the hanging of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). "You were part of a national embarrassment," McFadden told Bauer, according to MacFarlane. "The crimes you and others committed were things Americans never thought they’d see." And that's not all, as McFadden also informed Bauer that "you repeatedly perjured yourself." He said she "showed shocking lack of remorse" for her actions, while also displaying "a pattern of disrespect for government institutions." All the same, Judge McFadden said that the United States Department of Justice's sentencing recommendations for Bauer were too high and he gave her a 27-month prison sentence where she would get credit for time served in pretrial detention. Bauer became notorious for sabotaging her own efforts to get out of pretrial detention over the past two years with her repeated courtroom outbursts and her highly unusual legal filings. In July of 2021, for example, Bauer filed a motion to dismiss in which she described herself as "I, Me, Pauline Bauer the Living Soul, A Creation of God." She then proceeded to demand that the court "Drop all Charges against my VESSEL - PAULINE BAUER and Dismiss the Case."
