Part of the issue was that the gunman was on the downside of a roof and not visible to USSS until he reached the apex of the roof. When was the rifle visible to the USSS? What are their rules of engagement? They may have been able to see him, but not the rifle until he began shooting - how do things look if the USSS shoots and kills a guy on a roof that turned out to be unarmed and was just trying to get a better look at the rally? Depending on the very specific circumstances, it's difficult to know precisely how everything unfolded. We do know that USSS returned fire and killed him within a few seconds of him shooting at Trump. Those guys are tactically top notch and there are tons of variables - much of which we don't know. The clear mistake by USSS was allowing public unchecked access to that rooftop.

Mostly not true. It is more than likely, that Sec Service snipers had view of the suspect more than 30 sec. before he shot at Trump. Additionally, which is even more unusual & strange, other participators warned police 3-4 mins about a guy, with a rifle in his hand (!) climbing up the building/roof. They had eye contact on him the whole time. So, you can make your own conclusions of course; I simply think police didn't take them serious enough. Which is still crazy.
