Since Atkins' death, I have wondered why he didn't do something similar. I mean, if you were a diet guru, and had millions of followers, wouldn't you insist that upon your death, coroners should do an autopsy, checking out your arteries, etc? Read the first paragraph in the following article. http://atkins.com/about/recentnews/wsjresponse.html She says her husband's medical record is of no concern or relevance to the media or general public. I really don't understand this attitude, unless you're trying to hide something. MILLIONS of people follow this guy. There are no long term studies detailing the effects of this diet. Now, one person isn't exactly a scientific study. But if you're a diet guru, silence the critics! Prove that you arteries are clean, your bones aren't deteriorating, and your kidneys are working fine at the time of your death. That's the least he can do, for the benefit of the public that made him and his widow multimillionaires.
I think dieting is like trading. Perhaps Atkins knew exactly what he should do but just couldn't continue following his diet. Or the obesity was really caused by his sickness/complications. Chinook
I would never joke about his weight gain if it really was illness/hospital related. Medications can do some strange things with weight/water gain, etc. But the following his diet comment....if Atkins cheated a bit on his diet and had some carbs....a slice of bread or a Beer, that would not explain his atherosclerotic plaques that have been shown to be related to the excess consumption of saturated animal fat over long periods of time, something his diet PROMOTED as healthy. The smoking gun....(if I ever saw one). The most amazing thing about Atkins was his ability to live to 72 eating all that fatty crap in his books. No wonder he got dizzy and smacked his head on the sidewalk
What a delusional IDIOT. I have NEVER said that its a good idea to live off of butter, prime rib, cheese and bacon. Longdip simply cant win a debate without totally FABRICATING nonsense like this. I have NEVER supported Atkins. This is more dreamed up fairy tale crap from longshot. Pathetic. Now he has to outright LIE to score points. How sad. peace axeman ..well if you listen to Axe, DB, TM_, Max or 90% of other morons on this board their answer is "butter, prime rib, cheese, and bacon"
I started doing Atkins style low-carb dieting five years ago. Last two years, I'm on CKD which is low-carb during the week and high carb during the weekends. I'm eating about 3/4 lbs of low fat cheese, egg whites, olive oil, spinach, wine and flax+sesame+sunflower seeds during the week. Then during the weekends, I eat my meat/chicken, bread, pasta, lots of fruit and veggies and about two bottles of dry and 1/2 bottle of dessert wine . Since I started low carbing, I lost 60 pounds (from 225 to 165). My total cholesterol has been going down every year. Two months ago it was 92 (HDL=36, LDL=38). I also get tested for liver/kidney functions, Na/K and blood counts. Everything is normal. The nurse told me that my cholesterol is too low I thank Atkins everyday for coming out in the 70s and promoting his diet. Chinook
excess consumption of saturated animal fat over long periods of time, something his diet PROMOTED I dont believe in the Atkins diet but I have a problem with all these strawman attacks on it. Could you QUOTE the Atkins diet please and prove this is in fact the case?? peace axeman
Awesome chinook. Great results. My roomate is on what he calls the Atkins diet now. Only problem is... I think he is on what he THINKS is the Atkins diet. The kind these morons attack as the real thing. The dude is eating all meat and super high fat. I keep telling him he is gonna DIE... However... the real Atkins diet has very real results. I just personally think its too extreme, especially the induction phase. I think you can get the same results without the induction phase if your just a bit more patient. The other problem is.... people get such good results on the induction phase that they STAY on it. Bad idea. But overall... there is definitely something to going lower carb. Americans eat waaaay too many carbs. Personally.... I eat a good amount of very lean, low fat, protein with all my meals and a ton of different veggies. Im lean as hell now. I weigh the same as I did in college and am ripped. Getting rid of junk carbs is all I did and it had an immediate effect. peace axeman
You thank Atkins but you're not eating his diet. You can thank your low fat foods and wine for your low cholesterol though. You didn't mention your triglycerides or C-reactive Protein, or fasting insulin, or fasting blood glucose. :-/
