A hard impact to the chest where the heart is located at the perfect time...cardiac arrest can easily occur and it does happen in many sports. As a kid, my old man took me to my first lacrosse game (high school). I saw a high schooler take a hard shot to the chest from a lacrosse stick. Seconds later, he collapsed face-first into the grass as if the invisible man had hit him with a knockout sucker punch. Lucky for that teenager, there was an ambulance nearby leaving the high school after giving a CPR class and the driver saw what happened...he ran over with a defibrillator and saved that kid's life. I remember the parents screamed when EMTs shocked that kid back to life and then sobbed when that kid started breathing again. My little brother was with me too and saw it unfold. He was so taken aback by that moment in life... Today he's an EMT in Kentucky. Professional, Collegiate, and High School sports like football, baseball, volleyball, softball, hockey, lacrosse, and soccer should have a nearby defibrillator just in case the worst scenario happens. I hope that football player Damar Hamlin makes a full recovery. wrbtrader
Within hours of Damar Hamlin collapsing the anti-vaxxer crowd was all over social media claiming it was due to the Covid vaccination. Including setting up a fake account claiming to be Damar Hamlin's doctor who gave him a booster last week. This is yet another reminder of how deranged and demented this anti-vaxxer crowd is. These are the true 'sick" Damar Hamlin tweets. The ‘doctor’ who claimed he gave Damar Hamlin a COVID-19 booster last week isn’t real 'Dr. Eidelman' has since disappeared from the web. https://www.dailydot.com/debug/fake-twitter-doctor-damar-hamlin-covid-booster-buffalo-bills/ A Twitter account is fueling disinformation about what caused Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin to experience cardiac arrest during the Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin was revived on the field and remains in critical condition. Soon after Hamlin collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, a person claiming to be a physician tweeted that they gave him a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot last week. “I recently administered Damar Hamlin’s Covid booster on 12/26, and as a medical professional, I can assure the public he passed all screenings with flying colors. I am in contact with the [University of Cincinnati Medical Center] staff and will provide any assistance to them,” the tweet by @drbeneidelman read. Although there were many red flags about the tweet and the account itself, this claim has helped spread unfounded rumors that the vaccine caused Hamlin’s heart to stop. The @drbeneidelman account has since been deleted. There’s no evidence that they or anyone else gave Hamlin a COVID booster shot, last week or otherwise. Nevertheless, @drbeneidelman’s tweet continues circulating online. The Daily Dot found screenshots of it on Twitter, Telegram, Reddit, and other extremist forums popular with anti-vaxxers. Anti-vaxxers have long held that the COVID vaccine causes a variety of ailments. It can cause myocarditis or pericarditis in rare cases, particularly among young men and boys within a few days of receiving a second COVID vaccine. Many are taking “Dr. Benjamin Eidelman” at face value. A Truth Social user went so far as to baselessly claim that the doctor “murdered” Hamlin. The Gateway Pundit wrote an article describing the supposed Dr. Eidelman as a “huge leftist,” “Trump-hater,” and “vaccine pusher.” A Twitter user also said @drbeneidelman is a “vax pusher” and claimed without evidence that there’s been an “epidemic of heart issues in athletes.” (Article has tweets)
I heard he prayed too hard in practice and once he brought down Higgens, the Good Lord Almighty of the Seven Kingdoms, Jesus Christ, decided to take him to heaven. Double negatives of the photo shot of Hamlin falling to the ground shows his spirit leaving his body.
This is the 2021 ranking of cardiac arrests in sports...its very similar to the one I saw in 2015 but the difference is that Swimming is on the 2021 list and Martial Arts were removed. In contrast, Martial Arts were on the 2015 list and Swimming was not. I used to compete in Rowing (crew) a few times each season in my youth and college...we had physicals that Doctors were looking for problems that could lead to a cardiac arrest. In fact, I was held out of training/competition because I had Myocarditis as a youth for about a month and again a few years later in college for about a month until the Myocarditis cleared up. I only needed to make some changes to my diet, slow things down a little, and the Myocarditis cleared up on its own. Rowing athletes - We're tall with wide shoulder spans like swimmers and we tend to have enlarged hearts. wrbtrader
I had no problem with the tweet. I thought it was fine. But with what you have added here I’m ok with him being fired.
Black people are significantly more likely to have cardiac arrest than white people so I'm not surprised how much higher it is in football/basketball than hockey, which is also a demanding contact sport. Chris Bosh had to quit his NBA early, because of heart problems.
the incidence is likely to obesity, diet, and access to medical care so I wouldn't read too much into it.
