Even in this horrific, sad, and devastating topic, the guys on the right take time to bring up Quorans, Presidential compassion, how pathetic. But the experiment is working. US = 7 Atticus = not sure where he fits in = 12 BSAM = 2 Them = 50 Thread number 2 showing the addiction of the right. Thanks.
They are already trying to blame conservatives. It seems the shooter may have been Autistic and had a personality disorder. Where did all the mental institutions go? Liberals had them shut down?
Obviously I am not turning my RFB and H&K into the local authorities. We have an incredibly fucked-up value-system in this country that glorifies the first-person shooter. Homicide rates (per capita) are much lower in countries with gun controls. There is no counter-point to that argument. I own and have taught every adult member of my family to operate and shoot and was a member of the NRA when they were less radical. If our kids can't be protected while as school then something has to be done, urgently. I think the hiring of trained, plain-clothes ops should be in schools analogous to the Air Marshal service. It remains a lot more difficult to smuggle a gun on a plane than it is to open fire inside a school with hundreds of kids present.
I been lookin' over some of the postings on this thread and I have a few observations. 1. We got some warped individuals amongst the ET brethren here. 2. If you saw Barack Obama make his speech this afternoon, there can be no doubt now: Gun control is on the way. Everybody with a brain on ET knows I am no fan of Obama, but the man gave a very heartfelt speech on this tragedy today. So, I got to give credit where credit is due. 3. Some people think we need more guns in places like schools. Okay...I will go along with that. But, at the same time, we need better gun control. And yes, IMO, that does mean the elimination of certain models and much stricter scrutiny over who gets to buy a gun. I am thinking in terms of age, criminal history, and psychological evaluation. At any rate, something will be proposed and I'm thinking the wheels will start rolling on this issue soon.
From an interview I heard, the security system is activated at 9:30AM when school starts. Prior to that anyone can enter the building as people arrive for the school day. He probably entered just before the system was armed. There is also the possibility that he was known at the school because of his mother being a teacher there, so someone buzzed him in thinking he was no threat. Bottom line, it's really difficult to stop a crazed killer who doesn't give a damn whether he lives or dies, and is hell bent on carrying out his deadly mission. As someone who does not believe in heaven or hell, it's incidents like this that make me wish there is a hell for the son of a bitch who did this, and a heaven for those little kids. What a no good dirty fuck this guy was.
It is near impossible to make any campus 100% secure. But, there are many measures that can be implemented to do a lot better than we are doing.
Clearly defined points of egress. Local PD presence at the start of the day until the kids are in class. One armed and trained agent in the school is a powerful deterrent.
Several thoughts. One, I find it profoundly depressing that educated, accomplished people like members here descend immediately into macho threats and name-calling over a tragedy. Highly ironic that it is a tragedy involving senseless violence. I guess it's not so hard to see how this kind of crap happens. Really people, a difference of opinion is not worth threatening violence over. Otherwise, you're no better than a bunch of gang bangers. Two, this kind of tragedy will be seized on by the gun control activists and opportunistic politicians. Given the current fetal positioning of the republicans, they may succeed. It will be a dark day for us all if they do. Three, as traders we accept the market's wisdom over wishful thinking. Go to any gun dealer's website and see that almost every make of desirable tactical or self-defense firearm is on back order. So what is the market telling us? Obviously, that people feel the need for protection. Who has contributed the most to that? I nominate El Presidente Obama, with his hate the rich demagogeury and raw appeals to class warfare. Is it really all that irrational to think you might need serious firepower? Is it wrong to enact laws that make it difficult to defend yourself and your loved ones? Four, it is a basic principle of constitutional law that the government must use the least restrictive means practicable when taking necessary action that infringes constitutional rights. We have had a series of tragic school shootings. It would be a massive overreaction to ban semi auto rifles or high capacity magazines in response. Any solution must focus more narrowly on the actual tragedies. Perhaps we do need better security at schools. Maybe individual classrooms should be securely locked down. Maybe teachers or principals should be armed. We spend hundreds of millions on things like handicapped access, which is seldom used, or diversity programs, which are largely counterproductive. Don't tell me schools can't find the money to provide better security. Address the actual problem and don;t exploit it as an excuse to take away one of our fundamental rights.
OK mr bill. I would like you to take my two posts (pages 7 and 8) in this thread and dissect them for me, then explain to me where they fit in to your somewhat immature and biased experiment. I am assuming you have lumped me into your "them" pile. Show me how radical my posts were. Thanks
So you've extracted your head outta your ass after I rightfully exposed the idiocy of your post below ? Shocking
