Apophis won't strike Earth. http://www.deepastronomy.com/apophis-asteroid-could-hit-earth.html If it did, it would unleash more energy than all of the nuclear weapons on earth. We would survive, although earth might go into a "nuclear" winter or ice age. Eros and others like it are far FAR more dangerous, able to wipe the entire human civilization from existence if it collided with Earth. The astoroid that struck the Yucatan tens of millions of years ago is thought to be an E.L.E. like Eros.
This is what op was talking about ? The 400-metre-wide asteroid is called 2005 YU55 and at the point of closest approach it will graze our planet at 201,700 miles -- about ten percent closer to Earth than the Moon's typical orbit. http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2011-11/07/asteroid-flyby http://www.irishweatheronline.com/n...teroid-flyby-due-in-early-november/32083.html no sweating though
