If I can't pay for a doctor, and have no other recourse I can always go to the emergency room and get treated. I didn't say it was the end all answer, but it goes on all day, every day and you and I are picking up the bill for it. The problem has been addressed, there's laws on the books that make it illegal to employ anyone illegally, then enforce it. Everyone wants to bash Bush, but at least he tried to get some things going but found no support in congress, but that still doesn't address the problem of not enforcing the laws. So things finally start to hit critical mass because the Federal level refuses to deal with the issue. Now the States, those who actually have to deal with the situation, start to take the matter into their own hands, and instead of support, the get shit from the Feds. Deal with the supply, Yes. This law does not get in the way of that, it only helps state law enforcement to do just that. It doesn't matter what new law is passed to try and deal with the situation, they ALL are deemed racial and bad.
Your view is liberal but only about 1/3 accurate. Illegal drugs? Demand. true and decrease supply. Prostitution? Demand. this all about supply... demand is steady. Illegal aliens? Demand. --- and supply. If they were not here illegally and standing at home depot jobs would be bid at different numbers. Why do you think Home depot rents trucks too? Terrorism? Demand for justice from our interfering behavior in the middle east. This is speculative bullshit right out of the terrorist propaganda book. Terror happens when the disgruntled and power thirsty realize they are over matched. Rodent problem? Remove the food rodents eat -- or kill the rodents or close the holes in your barrier... or provide food in their home area. Ants? Clean the house or kill the ants or put up barriers provide them food in their home country. Disease? Eat healthier foods or take up riskier activities. I in no way condone killing of people - I am just pointing out the liberal half truths.
So you think you are going to get chemo at the emergency room? How about all of the insulin or other medications you need to live. Have you ever heard of aftercare? What doctor do they follow up with? I don't think you are being reasonable on this issue... Laws on the books aren't being enforced. However, my opinion, Americans who hire illegals are un-American. Can you blame poor hungry people for tying to work here as illegals? They are not Americans to begin with, so they are not un-American. No...the real cancer is inside of Americans, in the mentality of Americans who somehow rationalize hiring illegals. Just because someone is a capitalist and going for profit, that somehow makes it okay to hire illegals? I don't think so...but Americans who do hire illegals for their own profit sure seem to think so... Where is their American pride? Is their thought about America first...or me first? When corporations move jobs to another country for profit, is that putting America first? The cancer is within...illegals are a symptom of the real illness that has infected America...
Optional 777 says... Un-American? Clearly he really doesn't understand the dynamics of the situation. First off, capitalism is quite American. We're one of, if not, the most capitalist country in the world. Secondly, why do companies hire illegals? In the majority of cases, they are the only ones willing to do the work. And I don't mean doing the work at "that" wage. Sure, in some cases it started as wanting to hire people "at that wage." But unions, globalization policies and negative stigmas priced American workers out of some of segments. Ask a landscape contractor who hires day laborers. A meat packing company. A janitorial contracting company. Restaurants. The list goes on. What is more, the majority of illegals present fake IDs which appear authentic and acceptable. Many of them, like US temporary employment authorization cards, are acquired for $100+. And they are well made. Many of the employers who are small businesses, don't have the facility to fully verify these documents. How many people check each and every $20 bill to see if it is authentic? Sure, they might check the occasional $100 bill. But a common $20? Yet the $20 also the most counterfeited bill. Favored because they know most are very likely not going to check. Same logic applies with the temp employment authorization docs. There's also the issue of overstaying a legal visa. And Optional 777 and his ilk will likely scream "profiling" if they pay extra attention to verifying the documentation of Latino workers. Seeing as how good these counterfeit documents are, and that illegal Latinos favor them, employers would have to. Naturally. Like I said, it's impossible to escape profiling when it comes to this issue. One way or the other it has to crop up in some form. The illegal aliens that predominate this country aren't eastern Europeans, Africans, or Asians. They are peoples from Mexico, Central and South America. If you want to catch them, you going to be looking first and foremost at people of Latino descent. With about 90% of illegal immigrants in the US being of Latino descent, and making up by some estimates 20% of the total Latino population in the US... ... do the math. The solution is not going to be pretty. It's not going to be "politically correct." We're WAY past that point.
Only idiots think that the 25 pct of Arizona which is of latino descent will be affected by this. This will most play out as being directed at people who can speak little or no English. After all, what does a Mexican look like?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Mexican
You recall incorrectly... Of course, you are free to prove that you are either not a liar, or not suffering from a terribly flawed power of recollection...
So in your world it is American to break the law for profit...that is your concept of being American?
"Many of the employers who are small businesses, don't have the facility to fully verify these documents. How many people check each and every $20 bill to see if it is authentic? Sure, they might check the occasional $100 bill. But a common $20? Yet the $20 also the most counterfeited bill. Favored because they know most are very likely not going to check." You compare getting a bogus $20.00 with employing illegals... Oy vey...
