It is to protect the children, who have never seen a tit. All human mothers have blindfolded their babies when they were breast-fed, because if they see a tit, all humans will become rapists and murderers.

5.30am, my work completed in a day thanks to a savant studio engineer and the results off to the Venice festival. Can I borrow a blindfold? My room does not have blackout.

No, there are children present in your country. Or something. I'm just sick of all this falderal. Tired, going to bed.

So I guess the next logical thing is to find a way to counter the conspiracy theorists. Their not necessarily low IQs (usually though) but how lack of quality education leads them astray, their need for control, their narcissism which feeds group narcissism etc.

One finds there are many psychologists discussing all this and describe the condition well but not a lot I can find on how to, if its possible to set them straight?

When you’re in a cult, you either drink the kool-aid or you leave. There’s no helping them until they have to make a decision that will impact their own well being. As you can see though, and as history teaches us, many choose the kool-aid.

Indeed though why do we (generally) engage them? I mean the endless special pleading where they move the goal posts whenever someone let's them paint themselves into a corner? I'm reminded of something I read about Carl Sagan's dragon which he kept in his garage which naturally was invisible etc. I'll detail that later maybe but it's just more talk. As you said, we know the score.

Is the solution going to inevitably be something most are uncomfortable with, a fully verified Internet? The end of anonymous chat? Accountability?

Zoon politikon, as Aristotle said. It is our nature to live in a society. We are binded as such and thus political animals in nature.

For me, I do not have much access to these right wingers in my everyday life. They are curious to me and have the ability to shape the country I live in. So my engagement is a combination of wonderment and sort of information gathering.

I will admit my impression of these types is that they are mostly stupid and those that are not seem to have a propensity to exaggerate. Almost none of them have policy ideas and are guided by cultural ideology. They seem like Archie Bunker types to me. Crude and wrong but patriotic to their vision of America, not what America really is.

These types have definitely shown they can organize and cause damage with the internet. Whether it’s an assault on the Capitol or the spreading of misinformation about Covid. They cause some serious damage. My hope is that we just kick them out of the Union here in America. It’s getting to be too much.

Agree, just I have a premonition Covid is the headlight an oncoming train we can step out of the way from :) It seems accepted that as the population increases near exponentially, our species will be hit by more and more novel pathogens with increasing frequency. We have to get used to jabs and such barring breakthrough this all might bring.

By 2030 patience lost with the Archie Bunkers and conspiracy dwellers will probably drive them into silence on this topic but their seaweed dragging anchor is just getting more fouled. Policy is being introduced by many governments, Perú brought in a spreading disinformation law months back. I'm sure others have and developed countries will try to find a way to cool their heels while not doing the whole Black Mirror dystopia thing.

I know that in person, except when my daughter is around and her friends feel very brave nobody speaks crap like I read here (drinking hyperbole is fine). I filter the world so conspritarded does not enter my sphere in a way. I'm a big old benign authoritarian dad of course.

I passed by an article the other day on how teachers are gently waking up Qanon kids.
