So if traders aren’t passive but real short-term investors what are they? They sure don’t care about the good of a company or fundamentals or helping the economy and the world in general....??

Traders are speculators who provide liquidity and make markets absorbing risk for more conservative players such as investors and hedgers. In doing so, they reserve the opportunity and the right to make outsized returns on risk capital.
I am a trader and relies mostly on stockcharts. You can easily see the trend. It is not rocket science hard to figure out. 95% of traders should be able to clearly see the trend.
