For probably at least the last thirty years the US media would go out of its way to attack charismatic leaders such as often found in those with business or military backgrounds. Trump skillfully used the media machine to help his election. It also helped the media believed in their own bullshit and became out of touch how many people became even more fed up under the previous administration, thus discounting Trump’s chances. This opened the door for a successful Trump campaign strategy while Hillary took a more leisurely approach believing that would be enough. Basically, your premise there will be no leaders like Trump is probably correct. At least as long as establishment politicians are able to control our lives. The media will engage in even more fervent hit jobs on any male running US for political office that displays alpha characteristics in an attempt to quickly remove strong leaders from contention.
