Are pivots useful ?

  1. When a stock pulls bakc from highs or lows by either 25% or 75% I also add a volume filter so that I see this action on relative high volume.

  2. I thought the 50% retracement was the most popular with
    analysts?

  3. I am sure 50% can be useful, but we like 25% and 75% better.

Do you see a difference in how this behaves re stocks and futures?

  5. We mainly trade stocks so that is what I am basing my post on, but I have applied the pivots to various eminis and found them to be useful.

  6. I guess it depends on your style. I find the 50% to be better.

Here's an example of from todays ES.

Sorry to be a pest, but are opening gaps and the previous day's close factors in calculating these levels or do you use only the morning "pivot" highs and lows for whatever it is you're trading?

Sounds like he's saying "pivots" but referring to "retracements". Two different things.

How are you measuring this, i.e., 50% of what? Aren't you just drawing Fib?
