    North America's coldest weather — Greenland, where the temperature dropped to 87 degrees below zero in 1954

    Prospect Creek recorded Alaska's and the United States' coldest temperature of 79.8 below (rounded off to 80 below) on Jan. 23, 1971.

    Maybell, Colorado coldest temperature on record: 61 degrees below zero on Feb. 1, 1985.

    Rogers Pass, Montana Jan. 20, 1954, when the temperature dropped to a bone-chilling 70 degrees below zero.
