ATT isnt doing the the same thing they did with the last Iphone?

I noticed that the unlimited web data with 450 mins a month + 5000 night and weekend minutes started at $59.99. Arent they going to do the same thing with the new Iphone plans.

  3. appl is doing what they do best, repackaging old shit as something cool and new.

A new sdk for iphone? give me a break, the industry standard j2me along with a whole internet worth of apps/games have been available on window mobile smartphones for ages..

3G? again available on other smartphones for a long time. 36% increase in speed? if you believe that hype i have a bridge to sell you. I use at&t 3g, most times you will never get the full strength to experience that "36%" increase, in addition it is highly debatable as the bandwidth speed and 3g technology are all the same. Only the mobile browser compression that's different.

There is absoutely nothing new to get excited about. The ONLY significant announcement is the price drop to $199. That will allow more people like jonbig04 to buy them. Does anyone know if $199 is retail price or the price after a 2 year contract?

aapl hit intraday low of 175, bounced back to 182 for a -1.82% closing.

  4. Yea. The starting price will now be $69.99. And for business users the data fee is $45 instead of $30...

However, AT&T believes the new device will bolster its results after the initial hit. "As recurring revenue streams build without any further revenue sharing required, AT&T expects the initiative to turn accretive in 2010," the company said.

    ...

If its not accretive until 2010 for AT&T, I then assume that AT&T is kicking back at least 12 months of a large portion of data revenues to Apple immediately (minus cost of sales). So over $30 and $45 monthly subscriptions, I bet Apple is making $300-$400 a unit upfront off AT&T. September earnings should be blowout. They'll easily sell another 10+ million of these phones worldwide by the end of 08 ... Considering a $300-400 net margin per phone, that should add $3B of earnings to AAPL's bottom line... ($1.5B per q). Thats an extra $8 of earnings per share annualized on top of the Mac/ipod/etc business.

A stock double isn't far fetched.

They have killed the unlocking market, this is contract only, you will need to sign a contract before leaving the store.

  9. If they sell 40 million iPhones next year, as predicted, that's something like $13 a share above the current ipod/mac business. At a 30 PE, that's like $480/share.

  10. Yep, $480 per share. That sounds reasonable.

It's not like Apple has any competition, that many people won't notice the much higher AT&T rate plans, or that a new wave of products from Samsung, Nokia, RIMM, Ericcson, Palm, etc., won't be carving up the Smart Phone Pie.

And it's not as if Apple has made this newest offering unlockable (customers have to activate it in an AT&T store - I'm not making this up).

    Yep. $480 per share.
