it's bought relative to Euro and GBP

Asian currencies are stronger, commodities currencies are stronger

relative to real life needs it gets worthless

I live in Canada and haven't been in US for 6 months, just returned 3 days ago.
food is up 10-20% since that

don't fool yourself - money printing works

and AAPL the best example of it

man oh man, AAPL's got nothing to do with the USD/anycountry or money printing.

Just for the price action issue and your BIDU fav thing; AAPL's trading over 16 million shares per day, while your BIDU's just doing less than 2 million shares the day.
There is a LOT of Money and Interest and Action in AAPL (compared to BIDU or GOOG).

Price-Action-wise you gotta compare this stock with RIMM or QCOM or MSFT or INTC.
AAPL really stands out for traders and investors.

As for the USD. Since the 70s it's a fiat like any other country's currency. If the USD'S gonna fail, then another country's gonna make it. I'm not asking which one...

  5. When people in the industry talk about the dollar strength or weakness then they usually express it vs those currencies with which the US does most trade with. You are right that some Asian currencies are strengthening vs the USD but its not relevant because where USD vs Thai Baht is really could not matter less. About the USD weakness you are actually very wrong. Maybe you wahnna have a look at the USD index, its currently trading where it has traded in May 2009. To be fair, the DXY index is biased to the Euro. However, even when you break it down into each currencies you will see that the USD vs its major trading partner is only weaker vs the Canadian dollar over the past 6months. The USD is strengthened even against the Australian dollar over the past 6 months. And over the last month the Canadian dollar has been losing steam precisely because its very highly correlated to the commodity story and trade which has somewhat been lackluster due to tightening coming out of China plus USDCAD is highly negatively correlated to the US equity market.

But as another poster pointed out, the USD story has NOTHING whatsoever to do with AAPL. You are looking in the wrong area for whatever you are looking at.

  6. I slightly disagree with this.

US $1674 up 20% year on year

    Europe $1661 up 102%

    Asia-Pacific $892 up 320%

    Japan $441 up 80%

Stronger USD should be moderately negative for AAPl revenue and earnings in coming quarters. But of course the strength of the stock is product related. If revenue growth continues AAPl could easily surpass 300 USD...

  7. it has nothing to do with the USD whatsoever. AAPL like every other corporate targets fx rates withing their treasury departments and hedges fx exposure arising from expected income that will be repatriated in the future. I am not into the game of picking nickles and dimes so if you insist that the stock is slightly impacted by the USD then I give it to you, but 99% of the performance has nothing to do with any currencies.

News out today that the new HTC is breaking sales records!!!!!

HTC Evo breaks sales records amid new Apple iPhone hoopla
Sprint says new HTC-built smartphone breaks company's first-day sales record days before start of Apple's WWDC

Going to be interesting to see where this HTC Evo goes in the next 6 months, most phones get the hype ahead of the release and are quickly forgotten about, Palm Pre and Instinct to name a couple.

Putting all the hype aside these phone makers have to concentrate on battery life, they seem to care more about adding cameras and video features to these new phones, apples new iphone from the rumors is suppose to have a smaller screen and longer battery life, who knows what to expect but questions will be answered over the next few hours.

  10. Android phones are very nice, but you've got a ton of carriers producing phones with Andoid OS, and only one iPhone model. AAPL will close the gap a bit when they offer a CDMA version under 4.0, but they will always lag due to the fact that there are half a dozen hardware makers producing Android phones for all major carriers.

I saw an HTC running a beta of slingplayer and it was amazing, looked just like the desktop app, unlike the pathetic player on the iphone. I'll be buying the android as soon as TOS and IB make apps for the platform.

I was running blackra1n under 3.1.2 until the phone bricked and was forced to download 3.1.3. W/o mulitasking the phone is insufferable to use.

Does anyone have any time on the new Sprint Evo? Has it been released, or are those numbers pre-release sales?
