Apple becoming "uncool" - this image is the core of their business

Discussion in 'Stocks' started by wilburbear, May 15, 2010.

  1. Anecdote: Yesterday I called the nearest 5 Apple stores to ask about Ipad inventory: Every store was sold out - and they all receive shipments daily which means that the first month hype that wore out initial inventory has passed, and the product continues to clear out inventory they receive from new shipments. And this is for a product which most people don't "need", and at a higher price point. I'd say that as a company people are still loving their products.

This is separate from trading the stock. Just speaking to issue of the thread.

  3. Right. I'm not saying whether and for how long this will continue but that is not a weak sign. The ipad could have been a total flop, and in the eyes of history it may be, but thus far it can't be selling much better...

  4. i wouldnt be surprised if they sell a million iPads that weekend considering the hype about it alerady being out here in the states and how well liked it is and the fact that its giong to be for sale in 9 countries that day and going to be more soon after.

apple is a 350+ stock easily, now news about companies allowing workers to choose the iphone or the blackberry is going to help sales as well. Couple all of that with the new iphone and continuing verizon rumors and they're not losing this battle. They might have a few bruises here and there from what they've been doing but as said earlier, it really is a cult. So you can't have a porn app. Oh my, let's just call out the apocolypse. It's all bs. The company will stay on its high horse, and they're going to continue to have a product line that people will enjoy.

  5. ...which is independent of the future course of the price of their stock.

  6. I disagree. Their product line is the basis for their stock price. They have products that people love and will continue to buy, they will continue to have high gross margins and will in turn add into their sales/earnings. The more they earn (coupled with continued growth), the higher the stock will rise relative to sales. So it is no independent of the future of the stock price, in fact it has everything to do with the stock price.

  9. "they're going to continue to have a product line that people will enjoy. ". That, specifically, is most definitely independent of the direction of the stock price. Not to say that it is unrelated to the performance of the company itself. People can continue to love their products while the financial community's sentiment over the stock can change. Those 2 things are not inexorably tied.

  10. Apple MAC OS X (and all other OS for Iphone/Ipad/...) is based on FreeBSD, a very stable Unix.

Apple will become the biggest company in the USA.

They have no loans, no credit lines, have more than $30Billion in cash and own all of their buildings.

Why ? Because Steve Jobs had to ask money to Microsoft a little more than 10 years ago to stay alive... he will never forget that, he never wants to have this again.
