  3. The Iranian clerics are about to fuck-up bigtime- I mean this week, not to be confused with last week's fuck-up.

They rose to power-and/or maintained it- by creating martyrs- especially from the Iran-Iraq war so they know how the martyr routine works. But right now you have a lot of bullets flying around Iran. Some of those people will become martyrs for the opposition. I dont doubt that the regime will win the first couple rounds of this situation and put even more draconian measures in place to prevent further problems. Except there is MORE TO COME.

    Counter-revolution?

Hmm I don't know. The students will protest but the general population doesn't seem to have the stomach to overthrow the theocracy. Its an unarmed population facing a large military force. Its a bit like Venezuela, if you control the military you control the country. If some secular leader emerged and the military flipped to his side that would be a different situation.

  6. We are a long way from a full counter-revolution, and as with many other areas in life, they may have to progress "one funeral at a time." Nevertheless, time does pass, and green shoots must at least be there somewhere. Versus, say for example, Afhanistan. You could hand the whole thing over to the population tomorrow and they would recreate the same shit-hole.

  7. Iran making arrests for the shoot-down fuck-up.

I dunno. Doing a crackdown is the only response that Iran knows but I don't get a sense that there is much of an appetite in either the U.S. or Iran to take criminal action and execute some people or whatever for the fuck-up. The outrage in Iran is over the cover-up and the government being exposed as corrupt liars.

Ironically, I thought that one of the top dogs who was responsible for the fuck-up was a ray of hope in the whole thing. He came out and publically announced that he had in fact told the regime that it was a shoot-down right after it happened- even though the regime spun it differently. And then a couple days later he said "I feel so bad that I wish I had been on that plane." WOW! Talk about shiite you have never heard coming out of the Regime. I guess we pretty well know who one of the people arrested was.

  8. The missile was fired due to “human error,” causing the “horrific crash,” Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Saturday. Rouhani called for a special court to be set up to investigate the matter.

How do you accidentally shoot down a commercial airplane right next to an airport......there must have been something else behind it because it was not a missile fired to land somewhere else and clipped the plane, it was fired to destroy the aircraft.

  9. They were running a pretty serious clown show there.

The thing that is seldom mentioned is that that Ukrainian aircraft was not the only civilian plane taking off in that time frame. There were others.

Obviously, you dont want civilian planes in a war zone because you dont want them shot down. Duh. But that is not the only reason you dont want them there. You also want to clear the skies so that they do not confuse observers monitoring radar screens or confuse missiles whose electronics are trying to figure out what to hone in on and lock on to. Big fail and clown show on their part. Can't really attribute it to the fog of war either. They had lots and lots of time to take care of that.
