You are grasping to understand basic math and how democratic representation works this morning I see.

That math is sus as you get two senators per state . If you're extending the "senators represent the whole state and not just half the constituency" argument, you ought to extend the same courtesy to House reps not just repping their district.

If you write to your Congressional representatives -- who do you write to?

I would assume you write to the two Senators and one House member who represents you.

  4. What an idiot for gawd's sake. We know that El Concho would like to bonk her brains out but I am fairly sure someone else did that long ago.

The point that is missing for her- along with the constituent count- is that Manchin represents the interests of the people of West Virginia regardless of what the numbers are.

Oh I see. If a person lives in Kotzebue, Alaska, they should defer to AOC's views on the impact of national proposals on their community because she has more people in her district.

Where the hell do we get these idiots?

Kotzebue, Alaska. Not sure they will be deferring to AOC anytime soon.

  5. Who is responsible for this fucktarded fact... there are no regular colleges where you pay $20,000 to $40,000 unless you are only referring to community or state colleges...

All the state North Carolina universities (UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, etc.) have tuition under $10,000 per year for in-state residents. Same with most other states. 75.1% of college students go to state universities rather than private. Of course, I should note there are all sorts of other fees beyond tuition - housing, dining, etc. And of course out-of-state students are generally charged over $20K per year at state universities -- however 78.5 percent of first year students attend in-state schools.

  7. I am actually happy to hear that 78.5% of students go in state route. If you look at the top 50 schools at least half are state schools. even more if you remove Ivy Leagues.

Out of state is actualyl higher than $20k but still relatively cheaper.

From looking further into your stats it says out of state for UNC is closer to $40,000 which is still a way better deal than attending some private universities. To be honest, unless you attend Harvard, Stanford or Yale, public universities are the best deal in state or out of state. I would rather pay $40k at UNC than $75k at Syracuse. UVA is $52k out of state.

All the other fees are expected at every school but at least 75-80% of cost is the tuition.

I been advocating that private universities should not get any subsidized or federal loan support at all. "Most student loans — about 92%, according to a July 2021 report by MeasureOne, an academic data firm — are owned by the U.S. Department of Education."

Any one attending a private univeristy should have ZERO access to any loans owned by the federal government. That would cut the outstanding debt over the next 10 years almost by 1/3.

Below is a link to following quote. I wonder what 4 years at UVA costs now. I know a Duke alum that is sending both kids to Duke and he said he is paying over $60k per kid, per year.
The main reason they are able to hike tuition is because the schools know they can borrow it. They should have limits on what % of the total tuition you can borrow.

Re: UVA tuition and fees 1970-2014 link

I saw this discussion yesterday and wanted to jump in. my father kept a ledger sheet for my 4 years (69-73). Room, board, tuition, fees, books - everything totaled right at $8,000. My youngest daughter graduated in 2008 from another public in Va and her 4 years were a little over $80,000. I use those visuals a lot in dealing with young clients facing college costs for their children. It has been very eye opening for them when they can actually see a real life situation.
