One point I thought was important was his reference to the veterans and not cutting spending re veterans. Perhaps in most people's minds are veterans we see on tv and in parades as old WW veterans. Today's veteran could be women and minorities and if we include their families as voters, we are talking a very diverse voting population compared to the past. When you talk "Veterans" it is very diverse.
