That sounds incredible! Don't agree with your last line. That is, things are no better or worse. This is just an ongoing belief that all generations have, that things were better in "our" day.
Look at this thread for a microcosm of humankind irrationality. Repubs say arm the teachers. Where should they place their sidearms for easy quik access when the firefight breaks out? on thier hip like 6 gun wild west? Maybe in the teachers desk where a student can get easy access to it to play with? Do you think it inevitable a student will get shot because of a fearful teacher? "i feared for my life" Arming teachers make s as much sense as arming all airline passengers because "no one would dare pull out a rod." (as if shooters are sane & rational) but repubs want to do it, stupid beyond all reason, tha;s humankind:eek: what, repubs you don't trust your local LE??
yes and no, kids have always been unruly. Now back in my day, the good old days, parents and teachers had common sense. These parents and teachers today are out of control! Oh yeah, those are the kids we raised. Well anyway, we never raised them to be that way, that's just how they turned out.
Seeing that this nearly in my back door: a few thoughts The school If they thought it a bomb Why take the kid..., AND the clock to the principal's office Why lock down the school Why not evacuate the school and immediately get everyone the hell out / away from a potential explosion Why was the bomb squad never alerted / activated ================= The teachers The kid showed it to his first period engineering teacher - and receive praised It the second period teacher who went off the deep end - why..., why the hell not check with the engineering teacher first The kid Why not bring a picture of the clock to school first.., and ask for permission before bringing the clock in Why didn't the parents check with the school first..., before allowing the kid to take the clock in (these are way overly sensitive times we live in) The police They were responding to what had been reported to them Why didn't they call in the bomb squad to verify / defuse / destroy / remove it ================= School maintains kid represented it as a fake bomb Kid maintains he represented it as a clock he built, wanting to show his teacher Public is going nuts spouting racism / racial profiling ============== imo..., there is way too much stupidity to be had from everyone involved RN
This case should hardly be at the top of his agenda, but it was IMO the right thing to do. He's right about science and its importance, and anything to encourage kids (or neutralize the negative impact of this story) can only be a positive. Arguably, science and technology, and remaining a world leader in this area is a more important issue for the USA than the war in Syria or health care reform. Besides Twitter, I have been wondering lately if Obama is hoping to transition into a career as a TV presenter. He keeps cropping up on my television:
You don't think Odumbo chimed in only because the kid is a Muslim?? Think he'd have chimed in if the kid were white?
In this case, I really do not know. If the kid had been white and the story had been as big, he might well have taken exactly the same action. I admire your sustained, unwavering disapproval.
