Anyone using a Dell U3011 Monitor?

  1. Anyone using a Dell U3011 Monitor? what kind of graphics card do you use?

I just bought one of these but my laptop doesn't have the card or ports to run it. It only runs HDMI @ 1920 x 1200.

What kind of box/card will run this @ max 2560 x 1600 resolution?

I'm getting mixed messages from Dell's "experts".

  2. think I solved my own problem.

Dell "experts" don't seem to be aware of the DVI and Displayports on the graphics card. Idiots.

So any AMD 1GB card should do.

  3. Maddening. Also keep in mind that Displayport and Mini Displayport are two different connectors. I learned that the hard way.

  4. Well from what I've read the signal is the same with HDMI, DP or Dual link DVI-D.

I bought a Dell XPS 8500 desktop with 8GB, 3rd gen i7 chip, and AMD Radeon HD 7870 vid card. The vid card has DVI, HDMI, DP ports.

Hopefully it will have no probs running the 30" monitor.

    Cheers.

  5. They are idiots, my first T3500 can't even run my U3011 to max, so they have to replace the card, so any duel link DVI or Displayport should run it well.
