Considering enrolling for Sept exam as well but have been flip-flopping between CAIA and CMT.

CAIA curriculum actually looks interesting while CMT would add an additional valuation tool and perspective.

I currently hold CFA Charter and FRM designation.

  2. in the past level one was quite easy. I took it late in 05 and then level 2 in '06, been a charterholder since. It seems they are making the exam harder and longer.

I think the next step is some kind of professional experience requirement.

  5. I too am a CFA holder and my initial sense about that is they left the bar too low in terms of exam difficulty, especially the derivatives and quant side of the exams (this was more than 10 yrs ago that I took it).

The sample questions for caia test II look incredibly simple and I curious therefore how serious hedgies would view the designation. Would say Cliff Asness of AQR or the guys at Citadel place any value on it if it were on your resume?

  6. That is what I am wondering? Is there anyone in that places a value on this designation, or id the CFA the only designation that has value. I think in 5+ years the CAIA will be more mainstream and a more difficult test.

  7. very true. euromoney is one of their sponsors. I met one of their guys from london, mr. bean, no joke, and it seems to me that this man has tons and tons of money and is agressively seeking out new talent. there was a show in london I had missed in march. supposedly really big. anyone ever heard of euromoney inst. investor plc? caia is serious and the benchmark for future managers, as per the industry.

  8. The hardest part of the exam is the essay part on Level 2, but then again the exam/topics have changed since I took it.

Sample questions are not representative of the exam. They are there to entice you to take the test...

guys at AQR, Citadel, Caxton, etc probably place as much value in CAIA as they do in the CFA, and unfortunately that is not much, what they care about is track record/work experience/communication skills.
