Anyone have Life Insurance Statistics?

  1. I tried GOOGLE but couldn't find anything.

Looking to find a chart or data on yearly total sales of Life Insurance going back as far as possible.

I was curious to find out if I could compare war time vs peace time sales, and growing economy vs recession sales, etc

    any ideas?

    thanks

  2. looking to buy some MET

and want to know if people buy more life insurance when economy is good or recession?

  3. This one I can answer.

People buy more insurance when equity markets rise (or if real rates of return are higher) because the cost of insurance is lower, defrayed by investment returns.

The insurance company takes premium, invests it, gets a return, and then offers a risk adjusted payout. Hence, why insurance companies are so profitable.

FWIW, don't know much about MET, but I suspect they are one of the more conservative insurers out there and ergo will have higher insurance rates and get less business. Market conditions currently favor smaller insurance companies who are more aggressive & willing to risk the farm to get those higher returns.

Insurance is one of those 100% up room to go investments, by the way.
