I wonder whether Dell got some pressure from Microsoft or perhaps the profit margin on Vista is higher....
All of the commodity computer box makers and hardware/peripheral mfgrs have been waiting for the Vista consumer rollout as their Viagra for sales.
Of course, but in the past computer makers offered the old OS as a choice through a transition time. I see that HP is doing the same as Dell... not offering XP as an option... tsk, tsk.
That's too bad then. In our case here it means these two will not be doing business here. If we want new systems it will be our choice which OS or there is no sale. Ursa..
These benchmarks are not very flattering http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/29/xp-vs-vista/page6.html
Yeah, it really is kind of like Microsoft and the computer makers are going to shove Vista down our throats, regardless.
In this case it means we only need 1 or 2 resellers who will distribute systems with XP on them. They will get our business (and others's too, I'm sure). Who would want this game-box anyway. I truely don't see any advantages for business users to upgrade. They will have to replace the hardware in 50% of the cases and where's the benefit?? Surely not that christmas-tree user-interface? (I hope the have a classic-classic view available still). Ursa..
Vista is mostly about gaming... DirectX 10 and eye candy... and for THAT we all have to be significantly inconvenienced and shell-out $Thousands? Hopefully enough users will say... "UP YOURS, MICROSOFT!" ... and they will respond by adjusting their business plan. Personally, I'm staying with XP Pro until it's no longer possible... at least 2015.
A Mac user switches to Vista http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16873608/ ... And then it hit me, the reason why I switched from Mac to Windows Vista. Because it is new. Because I am naturally curious about most things tech, and not only because itâs my job. Because I believe in second chances. And thirds and fourths and fifths. For sure, Iâm enormously impressed with Windows Vista to the point of respecting it as a choice for friends and family if they so choose. But I really miss that peaceful, Zen-like quiet I felt with my Mac when Iâd wake it up or put it instantly to sleep. For me, it just works right, without really having to think about it. So I decided to switch again. From Vista, back to the Mac â to the brand new, white MacBook on which I told this story. ....
