I am not sure what you are asking, but if you are wondering about my comment regarding Windows Communications Foundation, here is where to look: http://wcf.netfx3.com/ Notice that is pretty much geared towards developers, but the effects on building decoupled, distributed, dynamic Service Oriented applications (what the end-users experience) will be greatly enhanced. nitro
I just bought a new HP printer the other day. If I get a computer with Vista on it, will this printer install and run properly?
Oh, I guess I misunderstood maxpi's post, thought he was trying to upgrade from XP to Vista. Isn't this a Vista thread? Never mind.
Federal agencies ban Windows Vista Concerns about compatibility and other issues move DOT and NIST to prohibit upgrades to Vista, Office 2007 and IE 7, for now anyway. http://news.com.com/Federal+agencies+ban+Windows+Vista/2100-1002_3-6166868.html?tag=nefd.top
OK, back on the topic here.... Some comments from Applian regarding Vista and soundcard recording, it's not pretty http://www.applian.com/support-vista.php A dual boot MAC laptop with OS10 and XP is starting to look like the way to go for what I do outside of trading
Here I posted how to disable Vista's UAC (user account controls). Disabling it will resolve 90% of Vista compatability problems - much more than just the problem in the thread. Some programs, especially trading programs have several files/routines grabbing data from the net. The UAC shuts these down, for security reasons I'm sure. . . so secure you can't use it for anything. Even some online chat forums will have trouble due to the UAC. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=1383389#post1383389 There are also problem with recording audio and video files as well. A known bug that they may or may not fix. Some software companies are doing their own patches.
microsoft emphasizes that their next OS will come out way sooner than vista came after xp (meaning, much less than 5 years). i personally believe it's best just to skip vista. say 3 years down the road ms will come out with a new one. by that time you'll want to upgrade your hardware anyway, etc. plus it seems that vista isn't going to be too successful. so MS will do their best to make up for it with the next OS they'll release. same was with windows ME (possibly the worst OS that MS ever released), which was followed by winXP (possibly the best one). just sit vista out guys. don't waste your time, energy and money. by now it is obvious to all that vista provides literally zero technical benefit over xp anyway. we all got better stuff to do than to mess around with it.
