I doubt any posters here are shorting 10000 or even a 1000 shares of anything... even a penny stock... LAST WEEK I WAS SHORTing 700 or 800 bac shares at a time..instant fills, no problem...
monday was the first day for enforcement of the s.e.c rules which caused some problems finding stocks to short
Lots of guys here short (at least until this week) 10k BAC or C or LEH. 10K is not a big lot in stocks as liquid as those.
Right at the open on Monday, most bank and IB stocks were 'red' in IB, i.e. unshortable. Throughout the day the slowly turned 'green' as if IB was slowly locating shares to borrow and they became shortable.
So does this sudden less frequent success in locating shortable shares of some financial companies mean that we've all been naked shorting from time to time, i.e. even brokers for individual accounts didn't bother actually locating and borrowing shares before allowing them to be sold?
