That was a nice block that went through in the ultra-long, wasn't it? 9 bags, $2mm/bp of duration lifted just like dat. Cash 10s30s (currents) trading at 106 now.
Hey treasury traders. I asked this question a while back. Got totally ignored and probabaly will again. I trade at an office of one of the biggest clearers in Chicago and nobody is making money. It's depressing. There are rumors every now and then about people doing well but I'm tempted to believe that it is fiction. High turnover of traders in a half full office - I can only think that it is down to the sales force being able to attract traders from smaller doomed outfits, that we are not all but empty. In short it's a highly depressing office. I am the type of person that has done better in offices where people are making money. So where are they? Is anyone anywhere situated in a good office? All I hear is doom and gloom so are there any good stories? All I hear is stories of someone blowing their brains out once in a while. & beware because I will follow up on any recommendations because I do want to make a move. Anybody?
Hey Guy: If they are not making money, unless they are not holding a position, they must be losing money then because the market moves all the time? When they were making money, what was it in terms of some numbers? How much do you pay for commission/etc? What is the deposit?
What exactly do you want to know, GF? Yes, there are people making money through this. There's opportunities to strap on some nice risk out there, but if you're not careful you'll be carried out. Lots of people who decided they were Masterful Macro Punters on 2009 are discovering that macro ain't as easy as they thought.
I'm not looking for a new strategy, I'm fine with what I've got. What I am looking for is a bit of positive energy and preferably an outfit that don't think that point and clickers are brown bread.
im a dinosaur clicker and last 2 years profits have been cut into 1/3 what they were in '07. It isnt pretty or easy...just trying to survive until this is over. This might go on for a few more years yet unfortunately.
Yea, the same is true at the firm I work. It sounds like you and me could work for the same firm. We have fired around 80% of our traders in the past 5 months. Morale is completely gone and it's a very depressing environment to work in. Moreso Eurodollar guys, but still a good chunk of treasuries guys. Do you mind PMing me the name of the firm and I"ll reciprocate.
