broadband will be fine. xtrader is based per exchange not country. IB doesn't offer xtrader but we do offer the major futures in the region and globally on one screen, if you're interested in a demo or more info, contact our HK help desk or PM steve_ib who heads HK/Asian sales.
To trade from home is very possible here, fast broadband is reliable and under US$ 25 a month, and I have had no problem with lag with the TOS platform.
