I once contacted AMP regarding spread trading and this was the reply:

  2. that's so good! if i want to fill 2 to 4 legs, for example, place limit price of overall price then wait for the fills. do i need to use pro version or just standard version? the price differences is quite a lot...

I didn't experienced anything bad :) but my fellow did (and I also read about problems of other ppl with discount brokers when trading spreads). The main problem was with pnl calculation on the back of the curve. But I also read a lot about problems with span etc.

Maybe I wanted to simplified it too much in my last post (or the opposite, I made it too complex). What I wanted to say is that it doesn't' matter which routing you chose, all those companies are good and for sure will be suitable for your needs. I was not referring to any problems with routing, when I said that it's depending on brokerage/FCM (that should work fine with any brokerage/FCM). What I meant is - there is standard method of margin credit calculation (but companies can also have their own), there are few methods of pnl calculations (especially for ets spreads and other spreads overall). Just - if you want to trade some complex stuff, like spreads, flyies etc. you need company (I mean brokerage/FCM) with proper risk management for that.

But I'm also not an expert in all that "technical" stuff, my contact with spreads and more complex stuff was with Stellar Trading Systems and in house prop risk management (so compete different story). So what I'm referring here is just from others experience that I'm aware of.

@patrickrooney any thoughts (from your experience), if there can be a problem with ets or synthetic spreads trading depending on broker/FCM (just overall without names) ? Not asking about routing problems, but other stuff.

I think both RTrader pro and CTS are good options to explore.

We even have some FREE platforms that execute spreads as spreads, the question is what type any custom spreads like 10 Zn versus 7 Zb? of spreads you trade? how often? swing or day trading?

  6. With the TT platform, everything is hosted by TT. The FCM doesn't matter. All the FCM does is grant routing credentials and manage risk. Not all FCMs support the same group of products so you could run into that. Where they don't allow exchange defined spreads or something like that, but the environment is managed by TT.

My question was about stuff other than routing :) I was refering mostly to risk management, which is most important point for what OP wanted to do. So taking that into consideration I think FCM does matter a lot...
