check your other browsers and see if you are getting a lag on them as well. also, do a control alt delete to bring up your task manager. check your processes that are running and see if there is suddenly some program there that is being a pig on cpu usage or memory.
You can do a "systems restore" and bring the system to a backdate like 1-2 weeks before. This way any changes done in last 1-2 days would not be effecting the computer running ops.
Install Linux: https://linuxmint.com/ LibreOffice for non-cloud office Netflix through Google Chrome Steam for games Free
The only way to solve the problem is to try different things to either find a solution or rule out possibilities. The two best proposed solutions I have seen so far in this thread is to temporarily disable Windows Firewall, and to try another browser (if using Internet Explorer, I would recommend Google Chrome). Please do not follow the suggestions to format C:\ or to install Linux Mint., unless you want a whole new set of problems. Also, you did not mention if you are having any other problems besides slow links in the browser. I would also try the following: - Bring up the same web pages in the browser's incognito mode and test the links. - Check speedtest.net to check your Internet speed - If using a WiFi connection, try temporarily using a wired Ethernet connection - Temporarily disable your Virus scanner and test links in the browser. Only try this with a very safe site such as the Google Help page, and remember to immediately enable the Virus scanner afterwards.
A delay when you click on a link could indicate a DNS resolution problem. Explanation - When you click on a link, the URL (e.g.http://www.bbc.co.uk) needs to be resolved to an IP address, a DNS resolver does this. Solution - try using an alternative DNS resolver rather than your ISP's. For example set your DNS resolvers to google - 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, reboot your machine and retry.
Linux Ubuntu. Finally pulled the plug on Windows 3 years ago and it was the best move I've made. My laptop got significantly faster.
Buy an external hard drive and install Linux Mint on it. Boot up using Linux and start backing up all your files onto the external drive. Once you have got everything working, install Mint on your internal hard drive. This is the only long term solution. Otherwise you will just go round in an endless circle trying to resolve one problem after another. The only thing Windows is still best for is computer games.
First of all take a solid backup of your files... Then give the exact specs of your laptop..along with the rest of your peripherals especially your router and how you are connected....also don`t forget your main applications and especially your antivirus. Then a small video capture that shows the issue would be most helpful. Lastly take a good look at your event viewer to see if you get any error/ warning messages . Start with this and probably its a good idea to prepare a bootable Usb with windows 10.
Imo, antivirus programs are themselves a virus. Biggest con job around buying antivirus, especially Norton. They slow down your computer, demand updates every other day which again slows down your work, and for the most part they don't work and you get to pay for the pleasure of them not working. like politics and religion, they thrive off scaremongering.
