Any licenses needed to be a hedge fund manager?

    I have read (http://www.capitalmanagementlaw.com/howtostartahedgefund.html)
that many states require a Series 65 license (or an equivalent) for any hedge fund manager with > $25M under management. Otherwise, if a manager has more under management, then s/he must register with the SEC. However, the aforementioned website does not specify which registration is needed.

Does anybody know if another registration, such as the Series 7, is required for managers with > $25M under management?

    Thanks for your help.

  2. I've never gotten any licenses whatsoever and neither have most of my other fund manager friends who manage less than $25m

  6. SEC's ability to regulate fund industry was overturned last year by supreme court. No fund manager is required to register now, even if assets exceed 30M
