Anvil problems this morning?

  1. I have been running an old Pentium 4 at 2.60 GHz with an 800 front side bus and 512 kbs of L-2 cache on Windoes XP with surprisingly good results, remotely.

Should be receiving a new Dell with an Intel Duo-Core at 3.00 GHz with a 1333 front side bus and 4 MBs of L-2 cache early next wek.

(Picked one up real cheap on the Dell Business Outlet site.)

The bottom line is that with 60-80,000 quote updates per SECOND in the marketplace . . . I really think that we now need faster processors and as much L-2 cache as you can get your hands on!

Here's hoping to Assent building and testing out that new "multi-cast" network to ARCA ASAP.

    Good Luck to All.

  2. Landis82, Let me know if your anvil improves after you get the new duo-core. I am on the wait list for mine and it might be till mid feb b4 I can get my hands on one.

  3. Will do.

I initially found a Duo-Core 2.60 on a Dell Vostro 400 with 2 gigs of PC-6400 memory with 2 hard drives and a 128 mb Nvidia graphics PCI-Express card on Windows XP for only $499.00 a little over a week ago.

Two days after it shipped, I came across virtually the same set-up, but with a graphics card with 256 mb., and more importantly, a Duo-Core 3.00 GHz Intel processor for $519.00

I promptly called up my Dell rep and ordered the one with 3.00 GHz., while denying acceptance of the 2.66 unit that came to my door this past Friday.

Right now, there is literally NOTHING in inventory on Dell's Business Outlet site of refurbished units ( less than 21 days old ).

    It's hit or miss.
You just have to keep monitoring the inventory, and every now and then you find something really cheap with great components!

    :)

  4. Guys if you are still having issues with Anvil complain to the Anvil networking tech bench.

I used to be on the Nortel VPN client and never had any issues but since I moved to F5 VPN client, I get consistent hangs ... The basket sorter takes a lifetime to load and the extended high-low scroller is grayed out for ever!

  5. Pandabear,
I am currently on nortel VPN and having the issue. I called assent friday to ask him if they are having server issues and they told me no. So I am started to think it might actually be our computer.

  6. Panda, are you on Windows XP or Vista?

I'm still on XP and the Nortel VPN client and it seems to be fairly stable.

  7. I am on the Nortel VPN too and I'm having Level 2 slowness today. It's almost like little freezes then bursts with both the level 2 and the prints...

    P.S. I don't think it's our computers FYI...

  9. You guys, it's not your hardware, I can almost guarantee you that. I cant believe they told you to upgrade your cpu when you already have a dual cpu. LOL, that's just too much. If Anvil requires a dual 3.0 ghz cpu, it'd imply that the program algorithm is inefficent as hell. save your $ and keep hounding the network guys at assent until they sort this out. gawd. that's freakin unbelievable.

I highly doubt somebody told him to upgrade his CPU if he already had a core duo. Dont believe everything you read on a public message board...thats freakin umbelievable.
