Yeah, they've been doing that for the last 2 weeks.... apparently Dell has some ridiculous backlog for the new Intel chipset.
I got disconnected 3 times today. I've been on this since beginning of this month and so far I'm not impressed at all. Lightspeed was ALOT better in terms of connectivity at least.
Well, I have connections in the data center and I didnt lose anything today. Everyone out there is upgrading their internet connections (ECNs, exchanges, broker/dealers), it makes sense that at some point it will trickle down to your internet connection and then your PC. A cable connection is limited, ESPECIALLY if there are a lot of users in your network "ring". If you trade over the internet, its tough to get the same advantage as other traders who have dedicated T-1s or trade from a data center.
im in the god damn la hub. FUCKING SUCKS. lets see...this morning, MER, gigantic freeze for anyone in that....mystically out of the money 40 cents when it unfreezes. I'm about to start a new thread devoted to ANVIL problems, its that retarded. Problems like this go unnoticed if you're some kind of longer term person, but if you're the ultimate piker like me going for 15-50 cent moves in AAPL/POT, all of this shit will drive you INFUCKINGSANE. FUCK YOU ANVIL, FUCK YOU FUCK OFF ITS EVERY GOD DAMN SINGLE MOTHERFUCKING FUCKING FUCKED UP DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
WOW, did you tell anybody about this.... or did you just sit there cursing at your Commodore 64??? I'm not surprised people aren't jumping to help out with an attitude like that, I'm curious as to how you didn't get censored for that post.... No freezing, no crashes here..... it doesnt go UNNOTICED by long-term people, but if you trade heavily electronically why skimp on computers, internet connections, etc??? When it comes to technology, you can either take chances or you can stay ahead of the curve. It costs money, but so does losing your connection. Anvil is still displaying faster then E-Trade and Ameritrade here in New York, at least it is on my machines.
I'm in San Francisco and trade remotely with no problems the past week. Had problems week before last though with lots of disconnects and frozen level-2 boxes. I'm only reaching the servers back in Hoboken via a Comcast internet connection that shows about an 88ms latency via trace-route. From what I understand, Assent has been replacing 2-month old servers with the latest Intel chip in the Xeon X5460 at 3.16 GHz. These processors are incredibly hard to come by. There is something like a 14-day lead time to obtaining them. Right now, Dell doesn't even have them in inventory! I heard that Assent was so dedicated to these new Servers that they sent someone on a plane to Florida ( special courier ) for 7 of these processors at $1600 each to put into their new $8500 servers. I don't know of any other firm out there that is THIS COMMITTED to market data. It has been my experience that the guys at ASSENT are doing everything that they can to stay ahead of the market data curve. You have to understand that there is HUGE flow now with all of these quotes, updates, cancellations, etc. We are talking 60 - 80,000 quote UPDATES per second these days! The NYSE has issues keeping up, so does ARCA and other ECN's that are constantly trying to increase capacity. This is a huge challenge for everyone involved. Quit your whining.
