Jason Rantz: I was inside Antifa riots in Tacoma -- this is what I saw

Having a front-row seat for the anarchy was equal parts scary and tense

Antifa violence and chaos made its journey to Tacoma, Wash., on Sunday evening January 24, just a 40 minute drive south of Seattle in the state’s third largest city

Several hours later, the radicals destroyed the storefronts of local businesses, smashed cars, tried to break fencing around the local jail with demands prisoners be set free, torched an American flag, and threatened to kill cops.

    This was inevitable.

The "direct action," code word activist’s violent rampages, won’t stop in Tacoma or even the Pacific Northwest, a hotbed of this criminal activism.

After months of ignoring, downplaying, or even justifying left-wing violence, these radical, criminal activists feel empowered. Can you blame them? They’re seeing policy wins, while avoiding serious consequences for their criminality.

The latest "peaceful protest" was instigated by a dramatic, viral video showing a Tacoma Police officer driving out of a mob of people that swarmed his patrol SUV. He was responding to calls about a crowd of about 100 who assembled to watch drivers illegally run doughnuts and burnouts.

The moment the officer pulled in, the mob of mostly young adults swarmed him, pounding on the hood of the car and his windows. The officer, a nearly 30-year-veteran of the department, was threatened. He tried to reverse, but police say he was blocked in.

After warning the crowd with his siren and horn, they wouldn’t stop. He drove through them, running over one male, knocking over several others. When he retreated to safety, he called for medics. Miraculously, no one was seriously injured.

Antifa and other anti-police activists immediately declared Tacoma would become the next flashpoint. They organized on Twitter and Facebook, cancelled another planned protest for that Sunday, and assembled in Downtown Tacoma.

I was there for the entire march and riot. Having a front-row seat for the anarchy, when I wasn’t supposed to be there, was equal parts scary and tense.

About 150 activists dressed in black bloc, to protect their identity and evade arrest, met at Frost Park and quickly occupied the intersection. These were mostly Seattle-area Antifa activists who made the drive down. There were some Portland activists in the crowd as well.

Oregon mayor on Portland rioting: This is what the 'defund police' movement looks like
California mayor says fewer police officers 'wrong direction' to take
    https://www.foxnews.com/us/oregon-mayor-portland-defund-police-antifa

A Republican Oregon mayor blasted the push to defund the police Thursday after witnessing the rioting in Portland and other western U.S. cities.

"All of us have just watched in horror as the violence and destruction has taken over the city of Portland and quite frankly, this is what the defunding of the police movement looks like," Mayor of Sander, Oregon Stan Pulliam told "Fox & Friends First."

Claiming the violence in Oregon is part of a "culture of criminality," Pulliam doubled down saying that the lack of consequences has "unfortunately led to more incitement of violence."

"We have [Portland] Mayor Ted Wheeler, who one week ago gets punched in the face by a citizen. And then just earlier in a segment on this very show, he's put to having to pepper spray others," he said, adding that many businesses are closing and their owners are looking to leave the city.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki, pressed on the riots in Portland and Seattle, said President Biden "condemns violence" and supports "peaceful protests" but said "smashing windows is not protesting and neither is looting."

Psaki was asked during the White House press briefing Monday for Biden’s reaction to recent unrest in the Pacific Northwest.

"President Biden condemns violence and any violence in the strongest possible terms," Psaki said. "Peaceful protests are a cornerstone of our democracy but smashing windows is not protesting and neither is looting, and actions like these are totally unacceptable."

More than a dozen people were arrested in the two cities, according to police reports, after demonstrators angry with Biden targeted government buildings and the Oregon Democratic Party building in Portland.

In Portland, about 150 people marched on the headquarters of the Democratic Party of Oregon and a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building.

Bill Wells, the Republican mayor of El Cajon, California appeared beside Pulliam and said that a neighboring city of La Mesa also incurred "significant problems."

He said a few bank buildings were burned down, the city was stricken with violence, a lot of cars were turned over, and broken glass covered the streets. Both men reacted to a new survey that found the vast majority of U.S. mayors do not support reducing police resources.

"And so I think it bodes well for really taking a serious look at this whole 'defund the police' movement and in reality, understanding that going for less police is probably exactly the wrong direction to take."

Never should have been "defund". Should have been "demilitarize".

would've been forgotten already. I'm fine with defund if it keeps the conversation going and these thugs keep getting exposed (cop running over people in tacoma).

Antifa members threaten to 'burn' down DC during Black Lives Matter march
There was a heavy police presence around the protesters
    https://www.foxnews.com/us/antifa-members-threatens-to-burn-down-dc-during-black-lives-matter-march

Protesters marched in Washington, D.C. throughout the afternoon and evening Saturday.

A "DC Queer and Trans Black History Month March and Rally" was organized at 2 p.m. by the Total Liberation Collective and the Palm Collective.

Later in the evening, Black Lives Matter protesters marched north from Dupont Circle.

Some Antifa protesters mixed in, as a red and black "Antifascist Action" flag could be seen being carried by a group of protesters clad in black.

The protesters briefly paused in front of a row of restaurants where some protesters scuffled with police officers, independent journalist Brendan Gutenschwager reports.

Chants of "Black lives, they matter here" and "If we don’t get it, burn it down" rang out from the crowd.

"We are here tonight because black lives matter," the group recited at the end of the protest. "Despite black lives mattering, black people are still dying at the hands of the police paid for by our tax dollars."

Protests against police brutality have been a constant in Washington, D.C. and the rest of the nation since George Floyd's death in May of last year.
