In what year? Seems like there were plenty of incidents during the Obama/Biden administration. All talk and no action. Typical Joe.
Generally, and from my memory: "Defunding the police" means different things to different people/cities. There will always be an official LE agency or officer (short of re-writing many statues, laws, etc.). There has to be in order to complete an arrest process. The law allows for citizens' arrest, but that process needs official LE to complete. Armed security do not have "no limits on immediately using deadly force to protect property or people." Armed security can make citizens' arrest, just like other citizens. And the same laws regarding deadly force that apply to citizens, apply to security guards. Security guards are not "sworn officers." They are citizens with (hopefully) training to do what they're hired to do. They do not operate "under color of law."
Earlier I posted the DOJ guidance regarding Armed Security and Castle Laws -- put in place in the 1970s. Bottom line -- the armed security you hire has the same rights under the Castle Law as you do as a home or business owner. If a criminal threatens your property or threatens people on your property then hired armed security can immediately escalate to deadly force -- in the same way you can use deadly force under Castle Laws in most states. https://www.elitetrader.com/et/thre...y-moves-to-defund-police.348087/#post-5166107
I am referring to the interview last week... Also police are run/funded by local governments so federal govt is limited in what they can do except offer funds to support initiatives. However the federal government cannot defund police.. if you are scared of that call your Governor or local Mayor...
You've moved the goal post. My discussion spoke against posses on patrol. Without agreeing or disagreeing to the particulars of your post here. I've already indicated, and indicate again, that I'm all for citizens defending their homes, within the law.
As I warned earlier, it was just a matter of time before there are conflicts between business / home owners plus armed security guarding their properties... and the rioters. The shooting overnight in Kenosha is just an example. The details in Kenosha are not clear yet; there are multiple claims about the shooter. One version states the guy armed with a long gun fell in the street and when they tried to help him up he opened fire. Another version states the guy was hit with a brick that made him fall and then got up and opened fire (but at a different location). A third version states the guy opened fire when rioters attempted to burn a business. At this point nobody knows the truth yet. There is video on FOX of a crowd chasing down the "suspected shooter" on a street and assaulting him; but what the guy is wearing does not match the earlier description of the shooter. At this point the speculation is endless. Yet there is the truth that violent rioters and armed vigilantes mixed is a volatile situation; I expect this will lead to escalation where both the rioters and vigilantes both show up armed. This unfortunately will lead to more violence and casualties. It is interesting to note that the armed vigilantes in Kenosha include many leading citizens. However the sheriff even stated - “I’ve had people saying, ‘Why don’t you deputize citizens?’” he said. “This is why you don’t deputize citizens with guns to protect Kenosha.” Yet many armed citizens have taken to the streets tired of the arson, looting, and rioting. Basically the sheriff has lost control of the situation and the citizens are fed up. Even the national guard is of limited help. The local Kenosha citizens organized civil militia to protect their town on Facebook. Citizens are taking up organized armed patrols as Residents Say Fires, Destruction During Unrest Have Left Kenosha’s Uptown Community Looking Like A ‘War Zone’ In Portland the police have made the decision they will not stand between BLM/ANTIFA rioters and armed counter-protestors - this is a clear message countrywide to reasonable citizens that business & homeowners need to arm & organize themselves to prevent their towns from being burned & looted. Kenosha is a follow-up message that rioting is not limited to downtown areas of large cities that you don't care about but will show up in your small suburban town --- driven by outsiders coming to your town to deliberately cause trouble. The situation in Kenosha is simply a microcosm of upcoming country-wide organized civil unrest. As noted by Tucker Carson - Kenosha riots prove urban unrest is 'class war masquerading as a race conflict". We are entering a dangerous phase of increasing violence and unrest -- with BLM/ANTIFA rioters using any police involved event as a trigger for violence and looting -- offset by armed citizens who are sick of this nonsense. This sets the table for a civil war - not a sectional civil war (e.g. North vrs. South) but a class civil war more akin to the French revolution. But it should be noted historically that most class civil wars are not put down by the "rich" but by the middle class.
The term "armed vigilantes" gets used and abused a bit to portray them as people who "want to take the law into their own hands" type of thing. Actually it is the opposite in most cases, they want to enforce and uphold the existing law in the absence of a functioning law enforcement system.
As a follow-up the New York Post appears to have an 8 picture sequence of the shooting. It starts with multiple people kicking, assaulting, and beating the man with skateboards while the armed man is laying in the street. He gets up to a sitting position and shoots those assaulting him. Sequence of 8 pictures in middle of article - https://nypost.com/2020/08/26/videos-capture-wild-moments-that-led-to-deadly-shootings-in-kenosha/
